Oleksandr Usyk successfully defended his undisputed heavyweight title by knocking out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round, showcasing his skill and resilience, while Dubois expressed admiration for Usyk’s performance and vowed to return stronger, highlighting the emotional intensity of the match.
In a thrilling showdown at Wembley Stadium in London on July 19, 2025, Oleksandr Usyk proved once again why he is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time.
The 38-year-old Ukrainian boxer faced off against 27-year-old Daniel Dubois in a highly anticipated rematch for the undisputed heavyweight title, and Usyk delivered an electrifying performance, winning by fifth-round TKO.
This victory marked Usyk’s continued dominance in the boxing world, improving his record to an impressive 24-0 and solidifying his status as the holder of all four major heavyweight belts: IBF, IBO, WBC, and WBO.
The fight was a rematch nearly two years in the making, as Usyk had previously knocked out Dubois in their first encounter.
Coming into this bout, Dubois was riding high after a brutal knockout victory over Anthony Joshua, entering the ring as the reigning IBF heavyweight champion.
However, Usyk’s experience and tactical prowess proved to be too much for Dubois, who fell to a record of 22-3 after the bout.
As the fight unfolded, both fighters showcased their skills, with Dubois initially appearing aggressive and landing some solid punches. In the first round, Dubois utilized his jab effectively, but Usyk quickly found his rhythm, countering with precise jabs and powerful left hooks.
The fight remained competitive through the first few rounds, with Dubois landing significant shots while Usyk danced around the ring, evading many of Dubois’s power punches.
However, in the fifth round, the tide turned dramatically. Usyk, buoyed by the cheers of the 90,000-strong crowd, unleashed a series of devastating punches that sent Dubois to the canvas twice.
After the second knockdown, referee Michael Griffin stepped in to halt the fight at 1:52 of the round, declaring Usyk the winner by TKO.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Usyk dropped to his knees in the center of the ring, covering his face with his gloves as the crowd erupted in chants of “Usyk, Usyk!”
In a post-fight interview with DAZN, Usyk expressed his determination to continue fighting, dismissing notions of retirement at his age. “Thirty-eight is a young guy,” he stated confidently.
“Remember, 38, it’s only the start!” His words resonated with fans and fellow fighters alike, suggesting that Usyk has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
Dubois, gracious in defeat, acknowledged Usyk’s skill and expressed his desire to return to the ring stronger. “I gave it everything I had,” he said.
“Probably a few things I could have sharpened up on. Take no credit away from the man.” He added, “I’ll be back,” indicating his commitment to reclaiming his place among the heavyweight elite.
In the aftermath of the fight, the boxing community began speculating about Usyk’s next moves. Notably, social media influencer and boxer Jake Paul was present at the event and posted a video of himself confronting Usyk after the knockout victory.
Paul congratulated Usyk, calling him one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, and hinted at a potential MMA match in the future, stirring excitement among fans.
Usyk, now a three-time undisputed champion—once as a cruiserweight and twice as a heavyweight—has expressed interest in facing notable opponents such as Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Joseph Parker, and Derek Chisora in his quest for more challenges.
As the heavyweight division continues to evolve, all eyes will be on Usyk to see who he chooses to battle next.
This latest victory not only cements Usyk’s legacy in boxing history but also raises questions about the future landscape of the heavyweight division.
With rising stars and established champions vying for supremacy, Usyk’s reign is far from over, and fans are eager to see what the next chapter holds for this remarkable athlete.
