Three Atlas was first discovered on July 1st by the NASA-funded ATLAS survey.
At the time, it appeared to be nothing more than an unusually large interstellar comet — the third such object ever identified after ʻOumuamua and Borisov.
But what James Webb has uncovered in the past few weeks has shattered that illusion entirely.
The new data does not merely challenge our understanding of interstellar objects.

It threatens to upend the foundations of planetary science itself.

Webb was built to study the earliest galaxies.
Instead, it revealed a riddle drifting through our own celestial neighborhood.
The data does not confirm aliens.
It does not confirm technology.
But it does not rule them out either.
It forces us to acknowledge that the universe may not be governed solely by the comforting rules we understand.
There are objects out there that do not follow our laws.
There are materials out there that do not match our chemistry.
There are trajectories out there that do not obey our physics.
And there are mysteries out there that do not care whether humanity is ready for them.
3I/ATLAS may be the first clear sign of that deeper reality.
