After NASA allegedly withheld high-resolution images of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb accused the agency of blocking scientific transparency, warning that the data could reveal whether the mysterious, course-shifting object is a natural phenomenon—or potential evidence of alien technology, igniting global outrage and curiosity.

In a startling turn that has reignited global fascination with interstellar mysteries, Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb has publicly accused NASA of withholding high-resolution images of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, claiming the agency captured them on October 2 but has yet to release the data to the scientific community.
Loeb, known for his controversial yet groundbreaking research on possible extraterrestrial technology, made the statement during an interview with journalist Elizabeth Vargas on her show “Elizabeth Vargas Reports. ”
According to Loeb, multiple NASA telescopes—most notably the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) and ground-based Deep Space Network facilities—recorded “detailed imaging and spectral readings” of 3I/ATLAS as it made its unexpected trajectory shift earlier this month.
The object, which was initially believed to be a typical interstellar comet, shocked astronomers after it changed course by more than 1.
1 million kilometers, without any visible natural cause such as solar radiation pressure or gravitational interaction.
Loeb, who gained international attention for his 2018 theory suggesting that the earlier interstellar object ʻOumuamua could have been artificial, now believes the same questions apply to 3I/ATLAS.
“The politics of the day should not sabotage science,” Loeb said firmly during the segment.
“They have the data.
They should share it with scientists.”
He went on to emphasize that open collaboration is vital when dealing with phenomena that fall outside known natural models.
“We’re talking about an object entering our Solar System from another star system,” he explained.
“If its behavior deviates from what gravity or physics predicts, we must consider all possibilities—including technological origins.
That’s not conspiracy; that’s the scientific method.”

NASA has not issued an official response to Loeb’s remarks.
However, sources close to the agency told independent reporters that the data in question is “still undergoing calibration and verification” before being made public.
Critics argue that explanation rings hollow, pointing out that preliminary imaging from previous missions, such as ʻOumuamua in 2017, was released within days.
Speculation has intensified since NASA’s public tracking data for 3I/ATLAS was quietly removed from several of its online databases earlier this week, including its JPL Small-Body Database Browser.
Amateur astronomers have noted discrepancies between the agency’s previously published orbital models and new readings from independent observatories in Chile and South Africa, which suggest the object may be slowing down—an anomaly in itself.
During the Vargas interview, Loeb referenced his ongoing “Galileo Project” at Harvard University, a privately funded initiative dedicated to identifying potential evidence of extraterrestrial technology near Earth.
“We have telescopes ready, we have algorithms, and we have scientists willing to analyze the data,” Loeb said.
“But NASA is sitting on it.
That’s the frustration.
The images could tell us whether 3I/ATLAS is shedding natural debris or reflecting light in ways consistent with manufactured material.”
Elizabeth Vargas pressed him on whether he believes the object could be a probe or a remnant of alien technology.
Loeb responded cautiously but with conviction: “It’s premature to make that claim, but it’s irresponsible not to examine the possibility.
Science begins where curiosity meets evidence, not censorship.”

International scientists have echoed Loeb’s call for transparency.
Dr.Amara De Vries, chair of the Global Astronomy Coordination Committee, stated in a virtual briefing from Geneva that “any high-resolution imaging of interstellar objects must be shared with the global scientific community immediately.
” She warned that withholding such data undermines public trust and stifles progress.
“This is not just about one object,” De Vries said.
“It’s about how humanity handles its first steps toward understanding what exists beyond our own star system.”
Meanwhile, in China, astronomers at the Purple Mountain Observatory have continued to monitor 3I/ATLAS, reporting fluctuations in light intensity that do not correspond with known comet activity.
Their data, released publicly on Wednesday, shows faint, rhythmic flashes of light every 47 minutes—an interval that some online commentators have speculated could indicate a rotating or pulsing structure.
NASA’s silence has only deepened public intrigue.
On social media, hashtags like #ATLASFiles and #NASAReleaseTheImages have begun trending, with thousands demanding transparency.
Some users have drawn parallels to how the U.S.government handled the 2021 release of declassified UFO footage, which followed years of denials and restricted information.
For Loeb, however, the debate isn’t about conspiracy—it’s about scientific accountability.
“We’re standing at the edge of something potentially historic,” he told Vargas in closing.
“If 3I/ATLAS is just another rock, the data will prove it.
But if it’s not—if it’s something engineered—we’ll have taken the first real step toward answering one of humanity’s oldest questions: Are we alone?”
As of now, NASA remains silent.
But with international pressure mounting and new observations rolling in daily, the world is watching—and waiting—for the truth that may finally emerge from 3I/ATLAS’s mysterious journey through our skies.
