🚨Stephen A Smith & Cam Just SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT About Shedeur Sanders REMAINING The Browns 3rdQB
The Cleveland Browns quarterback controversy continues to dominate headlines, and now, two of the most outspoken voices in sports media—Stephen A. Smith and Cam Newton—have entered the fray.
Their unfiltered commentary has set social media ablaze, with fans and analysts debating whether the Browns are intentionally stifling Shedeur Sanders’ career progression.
The decision to name Dillon Gabriel as QB1 and keep Sanders as QB3 has sparked accusations of sabotage, favoritism, and outright incompetence.
Stephen A. Smith didn’t mince words in his critique of the Browns’ quarterback hierarchy.
While acknowledging Dillon Gabriel’s experience—six years in college and 64 games played—Smith questioned the logic behind keeping Joe Flacco as the backup instead of elevating Sanders.
“Why are we acting like Shedeur Sanders doesn’t deserve to be QB2?” Smith asked.
“Joe Flacco is a stopgap. He’s there to hold a clipboard and mentor the young dudes, not to play meaningful snaps. This is politics, plain and simple.”
Smith went on to predict that Sanders would eventually get his shot, but only after Gabriel falters.
“Unless Dillon Gabriel goes out there and plays lights out, you know the Browns are going to insert Shedeur Sanders at some point,” Smith said.
“It might not be sooner than later, but it’s coming. And when it does, it’ll be too late for the Browns to save face.”
Cam Newton, who has faced his own battles with NFL politics, echoed Smith’s sentiments but took things a step further.
Newton accused the Browns—and the NFL at large—of deliberately holding Sanders back due to his celebrity status and outspoken personality.
“I don’t think they want Shedeur Sanders to be successful in Cleveland,” Newton said.
“His level of celebrity hurt him. What one guy calls aura, another guy calls arrogance. And in the NFL, that’s a dangerous game.”
Newton pointed out the double standard in how Sanders is perceived compared to other third-string quarterbacks.
“You can’t name me another third-string quarterback on any of the other 31 teams who has this level of attention,” Newton said.
“The Browns don’t want to deal with the media circus that comes with Shedeur Sanders, but that’s on them. They drafted him. Now they have to figure it out.”
The controversy surrounding Sanders’ placement on the depth chart has reignited debates about representation, opportunity, and the politics of professional sports.
Sanders, as the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, carries the weight of expectations and the burden of proving himself in a league that often judges players by more than just their talent.
His outspoken nature and confidence have made him a polarizing figure, but they’ve also made him a target.
Stephen A. Smith touched on this dynamic, suggesting that Sanders’ fall to the fifth round in the NFL Draft was no accident.
“We all know Shedeur Sanders shouldn’t have fallen to 144th in the fifth round,” Smith said.
“But here we are, and the Browns are acting like he’s not ready. It’s ridiculous.”
For his part, Sanders has remained composed despite the mounting criticism.
When asked about being QB3, he refused to engage in the drama.
“I’m speechless,” Sanders said.
“This isn’t on me. I’m not the coach. I don’t make these decisions.”
His silence has been interpreted by many as a sign of maturity, but those close to Sanders have hinted at his growing frustration with the situation.
Fans, too, are growing restless.
Many believe Sanders deserves a higher spot on the depth chart, especially given the Browns’ offensive struggles.
Social media is flooded with calls to elevate Sanders, with some even accusing head coach Kevin Stefanski of intentionally holding him back.
“Stefanski never wanted Sanders,” one fan tweeted.
“He’s sticking with his guys—Gabriel and Flacco—and ignoring the obvious talent right in front of him.”
Stephen A. Smith and Cam Newton both agree that Sanders’ time will come, but they differ on how soon that might be.
Smith believes the Browns will eventually be forced to play Sanders, especially if Gabriel struggles.
Newton, however, is less optimistic, suggesting that the Browns are determined to suppress Sanders’ rise, regardless of his talent.
The situation is further complicated by the Browns’ internal dynamics.
General Manager Andrew Berry reportedly advocated for drafting Sanders, while team owner Jimmy Haslam allegedly intervened to push Gabriel as the starter.
This tug-of-war between the front office and coaching staff has only added to the chaos, with Sanders caught in the middle.
For now, all eyes are on the Browns’ upcoming matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in London.
Gabriel will have his chance to prove himself as the starter, but the pressure is mounting.
If he falters, the calls for Sanders will grow louder, potentially forcing Stefanski’s hand.
And if Sanders gets his opportunity, he’ll be ready.
As Stephen A. Smith put it, “This is all going to play out great for Shedeur Sanders. You don’t have to rush anything. When it’s perfect timing, it will be perfect timing. And when that moment comes, the rest will be history.”
Until then, the drama continues.
The Browns are facing scrutiny not just for their on-field performance but for their handling of one of the most talked-about rookies in the league.
Whether they’re playing politics or simply making poor decisions, one thing is clear: the Shedeur Sanders saga is far from over.
