The news of his passing was shared by filmmaker Paul Sinor, a close friend and collaborator, who expressed his admiration for Samuel’s dedication to his craft.
“Samuel gave everything he had,” Sinor said.
“He didn’t just act; he lived in every role. That fire stayed with him even in his final days.”
Samuel French gained national attention for his role as CJ Robinson, a former cowboy turned FBI agent investigating the hostage murders in Martin Scorsese’s 2023 epic, “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
He landed the part after attending a casting call in Waco, where Scorsese himself selected him.
On his first day on set, French filmed a powerful one-on-one scene with Robert De Niro.
After the take, Scorsese reportedly told him, “No one could have played Robinson as well as you did.”
This moment marked a significant turning point in Samuel’s career.
His final role, filmed while undergoing treatment, will be seen in “Topath,” an upcoming historical drama directed by Cineor, set during the civil rights era.
French plays Bernard Crook, a complex character grappling with duty and justice.
Topath meant the world to him, and Cineor noted, “He said it would change everything, and I believe it already had.”
