“The Fate of Ophelia” singer, 35, praised her inner circle as she spoke about the behind the scenes of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, during an appearance on BBC Radio 2’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Monday, Oct. 6.

Having been amazed that Swift flew back and forth to Sweden to record songs, Mills, 51, asked how she was able to keep the album a secret from fans before its release.

“My friends don’t rat.

They do not rat,” Swift said, before claiming that many stories about her are untrue because her friends maintain her privacy.

The “Opalite” singer went on to reveal that all of her friends heard the music from her 12th studio album at least a year before it was released.

“They know about my life, they know what’s going on with me, but they do not snitch,” she said of her friends.

“It is phenomenal.

I’ve got a really good circle of friends, it takes a while to get there.”

When Mills chimed in that Swift chose her friends well, she replied, “Thank you.

I feel so proud about that.

My friends know everything, just like anybody’s friends know everything and the thing is they just don’t [snitch].”

Swift has been best friends with Abigail Anderson since they were teenagers at Hendersonville High School in Tennessee.

Her inner circle also includes Selena Gomez, whose wedding she attended on Sept.27, Zoë Kravitz and fiancé Travis Kelce, whom she got engaged to on Aug.26.

It wasn’t until 12:12 am on Aug.12 that Swift began publicly teasing her new music, saying, “Can I show you something?” in a video clip posted on Instagram.

During Monday’s radio interview, the Grammy-winning singer revealed that her album, released Oct.3, was also a “surprise” for her record label, as she and her in-house team kept it a secret until all of the artwork was shot and the music was ready to be distributed.

Swift explained that she keeps her work relatively private until it’s finished to make it a treat for those who support her music.

“I really want my music to be a surprise for my fans,” she told radio host Mills.

“And I really want to figure out how to do those surprises in ways that are clever and fun for them and feel like entertainment.

“And also, if you don’t need Easter eggs, then you can disregard that and that doesn’t need to happen,” she continued.

“You don’t need to do math if you don’t want to, but if you want a little extra layer of entertainment, I like to be able to do that and that’s why we’re so shrouded in secrecy.”

Swift joked that there are “some weird” clues to look out for as she and Mills spoke of her musical Easter eggs being “everywhere.”.

Speaking about her fans, she added, “They found out a really fun one the other day, which is that if you line up all of the titles of the songs on the album, in the centre, it makes the shape of The Eras Tour stage.”.
