Mitch Albom’s Twice Is GMA’s October Book Club Pick. Here’s The Lesson He Wants to Teach Readers

The bestselling author’s book will hit shelves on Oct. 7.

The bestselling author’s new novel, Twice, was selected as Good Morning America’s October book club selection, and tells a sweeping story.

The novel follows Alfie Logan, who is 8 years old when he discovers he has the magical ability to undo moments in his life and relive them over again.

The catch is that Alfie must live with the consequences of his second attempt, no matter what.

Over the years, comforted by the promise of a second chance, Alfie’s ability leads him to take more risks, especially with his love life.

After he falls for a woman named Gianna, and begins to develop a wandering eye, Alfie learns of another pitfall of his power: When he restarts one relationship, that person can never love him again.

Years later, after he’s arrested for an alleged cheating scandal in a casino, Alfie recounts his whole story to a curious detective.

In an exclusive video shared with PEOPLE, Albom says it’s an honor to have Twice chosen as a Good Morning America book club pick — and also shares the novel’s key message.

“The biggest lesson of this little novel is that even if you had the magical ability to do everything in your life a second time, it wouldn’t necessarily be better, especially when it comes to love,” the author says.
