If you’re a fan of Titanic, you probably love the amazing chemistry between Leonardo DiCaprio and actress Kate Winslet.

But what if we told you that behind all the romantic scenes, the actor was apparently annoying Winslet during their kissing scenes?

Yes, that’s true! While their on-screen love story became a timeless classic, the actress once revealed that DiCaprio’s playful antics made filming a bit tricky.

Let’s dive deeper to know what else she reveals about her rapport with the actor.

Kate Winslet spilled the messy truth about kissing Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic

Looks like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet‘s dreamy kisses weren’t so dreamy after all.

Yes, the actress shared the same while looking back at her career in an interview via Vanity Fair.

She talked about a hilarious memory while filming the timeless classic, and let’s just say kissing the actor was a bit of a mess for her.

While watching the famous bow scene (the one where Jack and Ross kiss with the ocean behind them), she admitted that the romance wasn’t as smooth as it looked.

Why? Because the makeup was a disaster – she had super pale makeup, and the actor had a much darker makeup than she was wearing.

So, every time they kissed, their makeup would smear all over each other.

Winslet also joked that after every take, she looked like she’d just eaten a caramel chocolate bar thanks to DiCaprio’s bronzer rubbing off on her face.

Meanwhile, the actor would end up with patches of pale makeup on his cheek, making it look like part of his face has disappeared.

She added:

We kept doing this kiss, and I’ve got a lot of pale makeup on and I would have to do our makeup checks – on both of us, between takes – and I would end up looking as though I’d been sucking a caramel chocolate bar after each take because his makeup would come off on me.

But this wasn’t the only problem – the actor apparently couldn’t stop laughing during the shoot.

On top of that, director James Cameron kept on asking for reshoots because the lighting had to be just right.

The two actors had to keep climbing up a ladder to get to the tip of the ship, and their makeup team couldn’t reach them there.

To tackle this issue, the actress found a hack and stuffed brushes and sponges inside her costume to do her and DiCaprio’s touch-ups. So, yes, while Leonardo DiCaprio may be among the most handsome men in the world, kissing him came with a lot of bronzer and behind-the-scenes chaos.

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have stayed close even after Titanic

It’s been over 25 years since James Cameron’s Titanic made movie history, but the friendship between the leads is still going strong.

That’s right  Winslet and DiCaprio have stayed close and can be regularly seen speaking highly about one another.

What started as a bond on the set of one of the most iconic movies of all time has turned into a lifelong connection.

Back in 2016, when DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar for The Revenant, the actress was right there cheering him on.

She wasn’t even nominated that year but looked just as emotional as he did, perfectly capturing the true essence of their friendship.

Also, in a 2023 interview via Entertainment Weekly celebrating Titanic’s 25th anniversary, Winslet shared how easy it is for them to stay connected.

She said:

We’ll always just make that call right away.

There’s no like, ‘Hang on, I’ll call you tomorrow.’ It’s instant.

And that’s actually really something.

So, while Jack and Ross didn’t get their happy ending on screen, Winslet and DiCaprio’s friendship is still very much afloat.
