While out promoting his Apple TV+ series Chief of War, Jason Momoa divulged some information on the development of the long-delayed Fast and Furious finale.
On the Bingeworthy Podcast, Momoa was asked about the status of his Fast X villain, Dante Reyes, and whether he’ll return in Fast 11:
I would love to come back and play, man.
People all over the world love that character—it’s crazy.
But I got no script, so not that soon.
It has been 15 months since work started on the Fast 11 story.
Without a script in hand, the prospects of the franchise look shady, at best, and bleak, at worst.
And unless there’s a time jump involved somewhere in that story, it’ll be fun to see Dom explain away how his kidnapped son aged 5 years while trying to maintain continuity.
Reasons for the Fast and Furious Finale Delay

Vin Diesel‘s family has been on an extended vacation since the summer of 2023.
2 years and 4 months later, there is still no sign of the Toretto clan resurfacing.
On June 28, 2025, Diesel made a surprise announcement claiming that the finale is looking at an April 2027 release date, after being pushed back 2 years.
Several reasons contributed to such a wide delay, ranging from script rejection to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes to scheduling conflicts.
With such a large cast of A-list actors, it has proven to be difficult to get them all on board on the same slot.
Reacher star Alan Ritchson confirmed as much in his interview with Screen Rant, saying:
That is one of the biggest challenges that franchise faces is that you’ve got a lot of guys like Dwayne [Johnson] and Vin [Diesel] and [Jason] Momoa and myself and everybody’s super busy.
So trying to get the stars to align so we can make that happen is a feat of nature.
So we’ll see how it goes.
In June 2024, a quiet internal restructuring replaced scriptwriters Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel with Zach Dean.
In light of that change, the new story is seemingly set in L.A.
and will go back to the roots of the franchise, teasing more focus on street racing and the return of Paul Walker‘s Brian O’Conner [Instagram].
Moreover, director Louis Leterrier‘s commitment to other projects, such as Apple TV’s Dark Matter (which didn’t pan out) and the sci-fi horror, 11817, is further contributing to the delay [Deadline].

Jason Momoa has an exciting lineup of projects scheduled for the next couple of years.
First up is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, James Gunn‘s sophomore DCU movie, serving up Milly Alcock as the titular superhero.
In it, Momoa plays Lobo, a dream role he has been chasing for a long time that fans are also equally obsessed with.
The June 26, 2026, film will be followed by Denis Villeneuve‘s trilogy ender, Dune: Messiah, where his fan-favorite pilot, Duncan Idaho, will make a belated appearance after dying tragically in the first film.
The epic space opera is scheduled to release on December 18, 2026.
Sandwiched between the DCU and Dune box office blockbusters is a martial arts action film directed by Kitao Sakurai titled Street Fighter.
The video game adaptation will feature Momoa as Blanka, who became a fan after playing it with his son.
The film is slated for October 16, 2026.
