Young Travis Kelce Was Already Stirring Up Drama — Donna Says His Preschool Story ‘Had People Talking

Before he was a two-time Super Bowl champion, a reality TV heartthrob, and one-half of the NFL’s most famous sibling duo, Travis Kelce was just a precocious little kid with a wild imagination and no concept of boundaries.

That much was clear early on—very early on, according to his mom, Donna Kelce.

In a recent interview, Donna shared a hilarious story that’s now making the rounds online, a throwback to Travis’s preschool years when his creativity nearly got her called in for a parent-teacher intervention.

She didn’t see it coming.

But the school definitely didn’t see him coming.

“They called me and said, ‘We need to talk about what Travis said in class today,’” Donna recalled, chuckling.

“And I immediately thought, oh boy, what now?”

Travis had always been animated, larger-than-life, and borderline theatrical—even at four years old.

While most kids were struggling to sit still during story time, Travis was already telling stories of his own.

“He had this way of exaggerating everything,” Donna said.

“He didn’t lie.

He just… embellished.

On this particular day, the class was sharing stories about their families.

Some kids talked about trips to grandma’s.

Others talked about their pets.

Then came Travis.

According to the teacher, he stood up confidently, puffed out his chest, and launched into a tale about how his dad had accidentally set the kitchen on fire, how his mom screamed and ran out of the house in her slippers, and how Travis himself had “saved the day” by throwing his juice box on the flames.

"I had a lot of explaining to do" - Donna Kelce admits the wild story Travis told in preschool

The class was stunned.

The teacher was alarmed.

Donna was speechless when she got the call.

“They were very polite about it,” she said.

“They just said, ‘We understand something may have happened at home, and we want to be supportive.

’ I had no idea what they were talking about.”

Once the teacher relayed the story, Donna burst out laughing.

“I said, ‘No, no, no.

That never happened! Our microwave broke last week.

That’s it.

There was no fire.

I didn’t run anywhere.

And Travis certainly didn’t put anything out with a juice box.’”

The preschool staff was relieved.

And amused.

But mostly relieved.

“I had a lot of explaining to do,” Donna admitted.

“I think they were half expecting to call child services.

Meanwhile, Travis was probably already onto his next big story.”

It wasn’t the last time Travis’s mouth got ahead of reality.

Donna says he was always performing—whether it was reenacting movie scenes, doing silly voices at the dinner table, or narrating his own play-by-plays while brushing his teeth.

“He had the whole house laughing constantly,” she said.

“Sometimes we’d have to remind him, ‘Buddy, it’s bedtime.

Not open mic night.’”

The story has since gone viral, with fans praising Donna’s parenting style and Travis’s early signs of showmanship.

It turns out the same kid who created fictional emergencies at preschool is now captivating millions every Sunday, and making headlines off the field with his signature wit and charisma.

Travis himself has leaned into the throwback.

On a recent podcast episode, he acknowledged the story and said it “tracks” with how he remembers things.“Honestly, it sounds like something I’d say,” he laughed.

“I don’t remember telling that exact story, but it’s definitely my vibe. I was out there making my own movies in my head. Still am.”

Travis’s older brother Jason, now retired from the NFL and co-host of their wildly popular “New Heights” podcast, wasn’t surprised either.

“That kid was a walking cartoon,” Jason said.

“You couldn’t take your eyes off him—even when you wanted to.”

The brothers have made it clear that their family dynamic was always built on humor, love, and the freedom to be a little ridiculous.

“Our parents gave us room to be ourselves,” Jason added.

“Maybe too much room in Travis’s case.”

Donna, for her part, says she wouldn’t change a thing.

“I’ve never wanted my boys to be perfect.

I just wanted them to be kind, and real, and have a good sense of humor.

And clearly, Travis got that last part in abundance.

The incident has become one of those family legends that gets retold every Thanksgiving—the kind of story that starts with, “Remember when Travis almost got us investigated in preschool?” and ends with everyone in tears from laughing.

And now that the world knows it too, fans have a little more insight into the origin story of one of the NFL’s most entertaining personalities.

The charm, the flair, the confidence—it was all there, even before kindergarten.

If anything, it makes Travis Kelce’s rise to stardom even more relatable.

Because behind the glitz, the touchdowns, and the headlines is a kid who once told his class he saved his family with a juice box—and believed every word of it.

And somewhere, a preschool teacher probably still tells her own version of the story.

About the time a curly-haired little boy stood up, smiled, and said, “Wanna hear something crazy?”
