Ciryl Gane vows to be prepared for Tom Aspinall's ground game: 'We know exactly what we're doing' | MMA Fighting

In the UFC 321 main event this past Saturday, one of the most disastrous possible endings happened when Ciryl Gane double eye poked Tom Aspinall, resulting in a no contest after just four minutes.

The ending to the undisputed heavyweight title fight has left a sour taste in many fans’ mouths, as well as some former professionals in the sport, who have questioned Aspinall’s decision to not carry on.

However, now a few days removed from the debacle, questions have arisen whether ‘Bon Gamin’ should’ve been disqualified for the foul, as he had already been warned about his fingers a few times.

Fans all point out one thing as Gane’s old fight footage surfaces

In the UFC, there are some fighters that have a reputation for being dirty, Jon Jones and Michael Chandler being examples of current fighters who have been stamped with that label.

In his fight against Dustin Poirier, Chandler was accused of committing several fouls, like fish-hooking, and wiping blood into Poirier’s face.

And because of the nature of the UFC 321 main event, it has begged the question as to whether Gane is a dirty fighter.

A video that was posted to social media by one fan, and it showed a compilation of fouls committed by the Frenchman in previous fights.

The video didn’t only include Gane’s fights in the UFC, it also included fights from when ‘Bon Gamin’ competed on the regional scene. The fouls varied from strikes to the back of the head, to illegal knees and everything in between.

“For real, this dude is an 8 point technician. I’m a big fan of him as a striker. Dynamic, creative, fast, accurate. And yet somehow he still can’t manage to control his weapons,” another fan said.

“If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying,” a third fan reacted.

“Alright, this is bad,” another fan said after watching the footage.

“People are going to see this and still be team Gane,” a fifth fan said in reference to the criticism Aspinall has received.

Aspinall’s father demands action from the UFC

This past Tuesday, Aspinall’s father provided his fans with an update regarding the heavyweight champion’s health.

And as of Tuesday, the heavyweight still had no vision in his right eye, with limited vision in his left eye, with further tests still required.

With that, Aspinall’s father has demanded that the UFC takes action to prevent future eye poke injuries in the sport.

“The UFC has got some rules. What will it take to change those rules? Will it take somebody’s eye being poked and falling on the floor? Something needs to be done in the sport to stop what happened to Tom from happening again.”
