Madonna and Elton John may work together in the future after ending a decades-long feud. In a post shared to Instagram on April 7, Madonna revealed that she made amends with the “Rocket Man” singer after surprising him backstage at Saturday Night Live.

Madonna, 66, posted a photo of her posing with her arms wrapped around John, 78, at the NBC late-night show’s headquarters in New York City. John was at Studio 8H to perform two songs with Brandi Carlile on the April 5 episode of SNL.

“We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!!” Madonna captioned the post. “I went to see @eltonjohn perform on SNL this weekend!! WOW.”

Madonna revealed she first saw John in concert in Detroit when she was a teen. “Seeing him perform when I was in high school changed the course of my life,” she wrote.

She then addressed the drama she had with the singer once she became famous. “Over the decades it hurt me to know that someone I admired so much shared his dislike of me publicly as an artist

. I didn’t understand it,” she revealed. “I was told Elton John was the musical guest on SNL and I decided to go. I needed to go backstage and confront him. When I met him, the first thing out of his mouth was, ‘Forgive Me’ and the wall between us fell down.”

Madonna also revealed that John said he wanted to work with her in the future. “He told me had written a song for me and he wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle!!” she wrote.

John also shared the photo of the reunion on his Instagram story with the caption, “A healing moment, @madonna.”

The feud between the superstars began in 2002, when John criticized Madonna’s performance of the theme song for “Die Another Day,” calling it “the worst Bond tune ever,” per CBS News. He also accused Madonna of lip-syncing in multiple interviews.

In 2004, John told Entertainment Weekly that he regretted the negative things he said about Madonna. “It was something that was said in the heat of the moment, and probably should not have been said,” John added, per Today.com. “Would I apologize to her if I saw her? Yeah, because I don’t want to hurt any artist’s feelings. It was my fault. I instigated the whole thing.”
