“I’m voting Stephen” – Late night host Jimmy Kimmel shows support for Stephen Colbert in a billboard campaign

Television host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel made it very clear that he is rooting for Stephen Colbert amid CBS’s decision to cancel his immensely popular talk show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. 

The 57-year-old Kimmel, widely known for his chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live, was recently seen in a billboard advertisement urging Emmy voters to show their support by voting for Stephen Colbert in Los Angeles. The billboard, which is quite large in terms of size, featured a picture of Kimmel next to an announcement of his nomination for the Emmy, with a text just below it that read:

“I’m voting Stephen.”

It was Variety that broke the news first. However, Kimmel’s billboard comes after CBS’s parent company, Paramount, announced the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s talk show, which had been previously hosted by David Letterman, after ten seasons.

Veteran TV host Letterman hosted The Late Show for over two decades. It was after his retirement in 2015 that Stephen Colbert took his place and continued hosting the show.

A previous statement provided by CBS to People read:

“This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

As per People, Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show was cancelled days after he took a dig at Paramount and called the network out for its million-dollar settlement with President Trump.

CBS announced the cancellation of Colbert’s show on July 17, 2025, following which other popular talk show hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel and Jon Stewart, widely known for hosting The Daily Show, came out in support of him.

The same day CBS announced the show’s cancellation, which was July 17, Jimmy Kimmel took the opportunity to share a clip of Stephen from that day’s episode in an Instagram Story, with a caption that read:

“Love you Stephen.”

Then Kimmel called out CBS for cancelling Colbert’s show and wrote:

“F*ck you and all your Sheldons CBS.”

Jon Stewart shared a statement following the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s talk show

According to People, after Colbert’s show was cancelled by CBS, the host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, shared a hard-hitting statement on July 22, 2025, in which he said:

“If you’re trying to figure out why Stephen’s show is ending, I don’t think the answer can be found in some smoking gun email or phone call from Trump to CBS executives or in CBS’ QuickBooks spreadsheets on the financial health of late night.”

The statement further added:

“I think the answer is in the fear and pre-compliance that is gripping all of America’s institutions at this very moment, institutions that have chosen not to fight the vengeful and vindictive actions of our pubic hair doodling Commander in Chief. This is not the moment to give in.”
