If there’s one thing that’s clear from Jennifer Aniston’s Instagram feed, it’s that she revels in a simple beach getaway, sharing with Travel + Leisure that her most rejuvenating vacation is anywhere with “a white sandy beach and clear, crystal-blue water.”
There’s just one hurdle she has to overcome before reaching those idyllic destinations: Survive the journey there.
“I have an extreme fear of flying,” the Friends star told us on a Zoom call last month. To help overcome the anxiety, she said she somehow fell into the habit of tapping the outside of the aircraft with her right palm and stepping onto the plane with her right foot.
“But I have been doing some hypnosis lately, and one of the requirements is to remove all of those superstitions,” she said. “I have not been doing the right hand, right foot—and now it’s shockingly good!”
Once she gets on board, she gets through the long hours with breath work. “Plugging into a good meditation can get you through,” the “Murder Mystery” actress said. She’ll also make a point to get up, walk, and do a stretch or two.
However, there is another travel habit she’s still working on breaking. “I’ve been trying so hard to become an under-packer because I am notoriously an over-packer,” she admitted. “You just don’t know where you’re going to be on a certain day, or what mood you’re going to be in.”

The upside? “My girlfriends really appreciate me because they can usually borrow all of my things that they have forgotten—I’m providing a service!”
But she does keep her plethora of items organized using felt-like zippered containers like packing cubes. “I put all my T shirts in, then all my underwear, bras, socks, workout stuff, and they just stack on top of each other, which really helps you out.”

With Jennifer Aniston
Window or aisle?
Aisle.
Favorite place you’ve filmed?
Kauai was pretty special and just magical. That was for “Just Go With It.” But Lake Como was pretty gorgeous too for the first “Murder Mystery” with Adam Sandler. There's always a great location with the Sandman.
The craziest travel mishap you've ever had?
I don't think I can say it in public, but I've had some mishaps.
Most surprising place you've been recognized as Rachel Green?
Not surprising, but I've been in vulnerable places, like undressed in a steam room, or in a sauna or some sort of a spa either half-covered or completely naked.
Dream travel destination you haven’t been to?
I would love to go to Japan and the Maldives.
Celeb Check-in
One of the most crucial items she always has with her is the travel-friendly equipment from Pvolve, a low-impact fitness system and app she called "one of the greatest workouts I've ever experienced," especially since it lets you curate each workout, including the length, equipment, and areas of focus, noting that even 10 to 15 minutes can go a long way.
Aniston believes so much in Pvolve that she's partnered with the company to introduce its new Sculpt Anywhere Travel Bundle ($275), released last week, which includes her five favorite pieces of equipment in a portable neoprene travel case, along with three months of access to 1,500 classes. “It's just an efficient workout that has kicked my butt harder than anything I've done thus far—and I've tried everything," she said. The most energizing moves for her are the side stretches in the warm-ups, as well as exercises with her favorite piece of equipment, the P.3 Trainer resistance tool, which can provide a full-body workout with exercises targeting the arms, core, and legs.
Wherever she’s traveling in the world, she’s able to just set up in the room. “I don’t have to worry about finding a gym, which used to be a big problem for me,” she said, recalling scrambling to find reformers or treadmills while away from home. “Here you get up, have your coffee, use whatever pieces of equipment you have, flip on your computer, and there you go! You get it done quickly and efficiently, and it requires very little space, which is what’s so dreamy about it.”

While exercise routines may feel like a chore, especially when traveling, Aniston looks ahead to the payoff. “You just feel so good afterwards,” she said. “I always know that feeling post-the dread will be worth it.”
The actress admitted those workouts are usually the most active part of her travels, though she does also enjoy kayaking and paddleboarding. “I mean, I'm not Sporty Spice, let's be very clear, but I'll do my best to get up there,” she said of her penchant for water activities.
More than anything, it’s about the people she’s on vacation with. “I've had a lot of really meaningful, wonderful trips, but there was one time where it was for my birthday with like 50 friends,” she remembered. “I said, whoever wants to come, let's do this, and a lot of them did. We had about three days of just lounging, relaxing, swimming, spa-daying, working out, eating, drinking, just enjoying ourselves. That was really fun.”
As drawn as she is to the beach, Aniston is ultimately a city girl at heart, having grown up in New York City. “My closest thing to nature was Central Park,” she said, enjoying strolls around the reservoir, as well as “speed-walking from 90th Street down to the Village.”
And she still loves a city getaway; Aniston told us that her perfect vacation day would be “walking the streets of Paris and sitting in outdoor cafes,” taking a pause to broaden her answer. “Actually, anywhere! Walking the streets in a beautiful city and sitting in its outdoor cafes.”
After all, for Aniston, traveling is all about getting out and seeing the world. “There's more that exists than just this little bubble that we are in,” she said, adding the importance of learning about different cultures, meeting new people from all walks of life, and trying different cuisines. “It's all very important and expands our awareness greater than what we're confined to.”
