Madonna is a controversial figure. While she is considered pop royalty by many, others find her to be a little too “out there” for their tastes. Several of her favorite musicians have slighted her in public. Find three artists that have beef with the singer, below.
The On Again, Off Again Beef With Lady Gaga
Though Lady Gaga‘s inclusion on this list might not be as cut and dry as the others, the pair have had a notable beef over the years. Many people have compared the two artists. Both are pop singers that have dared to push the envelop and are considered well ahead of their time.
While Gaga might be gracious about that connection, Madonna has expressed her distaste for it several times. Elton John (who will feature later in this list) once called his peer out for her pejorative comments about Gaga.
“I got that Gaga’s single Born This Way definitely sounded similar to Express Yourself, but I couldn’t see why she was so ungracious and nasty about it, rather than taking it as a compliment…particularly when she claims to be a champion for women,” John once said.
We have to think Gaga got a bitter taste in her mouth about Madonna following her comments about their similarities. Nevertheless, Gaga has stuck to praising her predecessor in public.
“So the thing with me and Madonna, for example, is that I admired her always,” Gaga once said. “And I still admire her, no matter what she might think of me.”

Elton John Tackles Madonna’s Live Performances
Elton John and Madonna had a long feud, beginning in the early ’00s. John threw many insults her way over the years, but the one below is arguably the most cutting. John nodded to Madonna’s “lip syncing,” which she has been accused of more than a few times.
“Madonna, best live act? F*** off,” John once said. “Since when has lip-syncing been live? Sorry about that, but I think everyone who lip-syncs on stage in public when you pay like 75 quid to see them should be shot. Thank you very much. That’s me off her Christmas card list, but do I give a toss? No.”
Clearly, John cares more about protecting what he deems good artistry than saving face.

Cher’s Take on Madonna’s Talents
Everyone has their opinions on what constitutes talent. Some need exceptional lyricism to deem someone talented while others need only a powerful performer. Cher once skirted around deeming Madonna untalented. It was a brutal dressing down of her fellow pop artist.
“She’s unbelievably creative because she’s not unbelievably talented, she’s not beautiful but she’s rude,” Cher once said. “So this man said, ‘How do you feel about her?’ and I said, ‘She’s nice, she’s creative but she’s rude.’ I said a different word but they bleeped me.”
