Madonna’s years-long effort in trying to get a biopic made about her life starring Julia Garner may actually be coming to fruition in a much different way than first anticipated.
The 66-year-old Queen of Pop has partnered with global streaming giant Netflix for a limited series according to Deadline on Monday.
One very important thing to note is that this project is different project to the feature film biopic which was previously in development at Universal with the aforementioned Julia, 31, set to porta the music superstar.
Despite it being a rival project, the three-time Emmy winner is the frontrunner to take on the role as Deadline’s Nellie Andreeeva wrote that Julia ‘would most likely play Madonna, subject of availability as she doesn’t have a deal.’
It remains unclear what eras of Madonna’s decades-long career will be covered but as Julia is in her early 30s she would fit right in perfectly with the late 1980s early 1990s time period.
It was also reported that Madonna will be working on the project with Canadian filmmaker Shawn Levy who directed blockbuster R-rated superhero flick Deadpool & Wolverine last year.

The two had been talking about the project for years as it is in early development for television and remains unclear if Madonna will be involved in the writing process as she had co-wrote the rival feature.
Madonna has been persistent in her years-long effort to have a movie about her life made.
In 2023 she got to work on a biopic called Who’s That Girl, a nod to her 1987 film and song of the same name.
The film was initially developed with Diablo Cody on board as co-writer of the screenplay, which was then titled Little Sparrow.
However, the hitmaker pivoted her focus to zero in on her international Celebration tour.
Then, last year the Michigan native penned most of the film with Erin Cressida Wilson, and eyed Garner to portray her.
Last November, Madonna used social media to air out her frustration over road blocks in her pursuit to bring her film to life.
She wrote on Instagram, ‘After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film, I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged.’

The renowned performer noted she had ‘been working on it for 4 years,’ with people insisting that she should ‘downsize, down scale, think smaller.’
The lengthy caption continued, ‘No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful.. It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way.’
But she explained that she felt a sense of renewed motivation after spending time with loved ones: ‘Spending time with my creative friends was just the fuel I needed to keep going!
‘We all agreed that we need to be even more fearless!!! Art =Survival We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life, the whole universe will conspire to help you get it.’
She then turned to her nearly 20 million followers to ask: ‘Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature film?’
