“Missouri Charity Director Accused of Stealing $11 Million Meant for Children—Shock and Outrage Ensue”

Connie Bobo, 46, the executive director of the New Heights Community Resource Center in Bridgeton, Missouri, has been indicted on multiple federal charges, including wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and obstruction of an official proceeding.

Prosecutors allege that between February 2019 and March 2022, Bobo submitted fraudulent claims to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, stating that the nonprofit had served over 3 million meals to low-income children.

In reality, the organization provided significantly fewer meals, and the funds were diverted for personal use.

According to the indictment, Bobo used approximately $4.

Hughes allegedly spent over $200,000 of these funds on a luxury Mercedes-Benz G550 Wagon.

To conceal her actions, Bobo allegedly forged documents and falsely listed friends and family members as board members of the nonprofit without their consent.

The charges against Bobo include three counts of wire fraud, three counts of aggravated identity theft, and two counts of obstruction of an official proceeding.

If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

Prosecutors are also seeking the forfeiture of the properties and luxury vehicle purchased with the embezzled funds.

Bobo’s trial is currently underway, and the outcome will determine the extent of the penalties she may face for her alleged actions.
