Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith Call Off Divorce Trial One Day Before Court Date

In a surprising turn of events, Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith have canceled their upcoming divorce trial concerning the custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Juno, just one day before it was set to begin.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Turner-Smith’s attorney filed paperwork on Tuesday, October 14, requesting that the trial scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, be removed from the court’s calendar.

The filing indicates that the former couple is now working together privately to reach a custody agreement.

The documents state, “The parties are in the process of negotiating a custody judgment.

The parties will return to the privately compensated temporary judge to resolve any impasses in the proposed custody judgment.”

The couple, who married in 2019 and welcomed their daughter in April 2020, announced their separation in October 2023.

Their divorce was finalized in May 2025, with Jackson agreeing to pay $2,787 per month in child support.

However, disagreements over their daughter’s schooling led to legal disputes.

In June 2025, Jackson filed an emergency motion accusing Turner-Smith of changing Juno’s school without his consent.

He expressed concerns that she was prioritizing travel over traditional schooling and requested that decisions regarding Juno’s education require mutual agreement.

Turner-Smith had previously sought a court order granting her the final say on school decisions, provided she first consult with Jackson.

Despite these challenges, the decision to cancel the trial suggests that Jackson and Turner-Smith are making progress in resolving their differences.

Their willingness to work together privately indicates a commitment to co-parenting and prioritizing their daughter’s well-being.

As they continue to negotiate a custody agreement, the involvement of a privately compensated temporary judge may help facilitate a resolution that is in the best interest of their daughter.

This development marks a significant shift from the contentious legal battles that characterized their separation.

It remains to be seen how this change will impact their co-parenting relationship and their daughter’s future.

For now, the couple appears to be taking steps toward a more amicable arrangement, focusing on what is best for Juno.
