The Last Text: Fede Dorcaz’s Girlfriend Sent a ‘Goodnight’ Message Minutes Before He Was Shot Dead in Mexico City
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – The vibrant, ascendant trajectory of Latin pop was brutally cut short this week as Argentine singer and model Fede Dorcaz, just 29, was fatally shot in a horrific daylight attack in Mexico City, mere days before his highly anticipated debut on a major reality television show.
The murder, which authorities are investigating as a botched high-end robbery, has sent shockwaves through the entertainment community and reignited a painful national conversation about the pervasive violence plaguing the Mexican capital.
Dorcaz, a charismatic talent whose career had recently been described as “meteoric” by publications tracking the Latin music scene, was ambushed on Thursday evening, October 9, 2025, while driving home from a final rehearsal for the popular dance competition, Las Estrellas Bailan En Hoy (The Stars Dance Today), the Mexican equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing.
The location of the attack—near the intersection of the Periférico Ring Road and Electrificación Street in the Ampliación Daniel Garza neighborhood of the Miguel Hidalgo borough—is a frequently congested, affluent area, making the brazenness of the crime particularly chilling.
According to initial reports from the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC CDMX), Dorcaz was intercepted by at least four male suspects traveling on two motorcycles.
The attack occurred as Dorcaz, driving a rented luxury SUV, was attempting to exit the main ring road.
Sources close to the investigation, including celebrity journalist Javier Ceriani, suggest the singer resisted an attempt to steal his vehicle or personal effects.
In a terrifying moment of violence captured by local surveillance, one of the assailants fired multiple shots into the vehicle.
Dorcaz was struck at least three times, including a fatal wound to the neck, causing him to instantly lose control and collapse outside the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the SSC CDMX confirmed the ongoing manhunt, stating: “Video surveillance cameras in the area are being analyzed to identify the likely perpetrators who, according to initial reports, were traveling on two motorcycles.
We are investigating this as an intentional homicide, though the evidence strongly points to an attempted robbery that turned violent.
” No arrests have been made as of press time, amplifying public anxiety and calls for justice.
The tragedy is compounded by the fact that Dorcaz was on the cusp of his biggest mainstream break.
Born Federico Dorcazberro in Mar del Plata, Argentina, the performer had spent his youth in Spain, where he was a successful international model before dedicating himself fully to his true passion: music.
Known for blending pop, rock, and electronic styles in hits like “Cara Bonita” and “No Eres Tú,” he relocated to Mexico—a country he often praised as generous to foreign artists—to aggressively pursue his singing career.
He was slated to debut on Las Estrellas Bailan En Hoy with his girlfriend, actress and dancer Mariana Ávila, a popular YouTube personality and figure on the Mexican entertainment circuit.
The couple was beloved, having even collaborated musically on the romantic duet “Moka.”
The raw grief of the Hoy program cast and crew was palpable.
Hosts visibly struggled to hold back tears as they confirmed the devastating news on air.
Andrea Legarreta, one of the show’s veteran anchors, expressed profound sadness, stating that the entire HOY family was mourning.
Mariana Ávila’s own tribute on social media painted a portrait of utter devastation.
“You will always be my favorite person in the whole world, I love you and will always love you,” she wrote in a heartbreaking post on X (formerly Twitter).
In a subsequent, emotionally charged message that resonated deeply with fans, she pleaded: “I don’t want to spend one more day without you, baby.
I’m waiting for your goodnight message.
Love, please come back.
You know I was never that strong without you by my side.”
A close friend of Dorcaz, communicator Héctor Navarro, provided chilling details about the singer’s final moments, revealing a tragic twist of fate.
Navarro recounted how Dorcaz was initially scheduled to go directly home with Ávila after their last dance rehearsal.
However, he decided at the last minute to attend a brand event.
Navarro said that Dorcaz consulted with Ávila, who agreed, and they parted ways in their respective cars.
“A couple of minutes passed, and Mariana texted Fede, who no longer answered.
Mariana started to get distressed,” Navarro related, illustrating the swift and final nature of the attack that occurred shortly after they separated.
Producers of Hoy, including Andrea Rodríguez, recalled Dorcaz as “a great soul whose passion will live on.
” Rodríguez mentioned meeting the vibrant young singer just a month and a half ago, noting that his charisma and talent made him the “perfect match” for their new season.
She acknowledged the difficulty of processing such an event: “These are stories where we will never know what really happened in those two or three minutes, but the only thing I know is that he was a very good kid, and you can’t fake that. ”
As authorities continue to review security footage and hunt for the four suspects on the motorcycles, the death of Fede Dorcaz serves as a grim reminder of the random violence that threatens even those who appear to be living out their dreams.
The rising star, who had just begun to realize his potential, leaves behind a grieving partner, a shattered cast, and a legacy that is now tragically defined by a single, senseless act of brutality on a busy Mexico City road.
Tributes continue to pour in from fans demanding “Justice for Fede.”
