Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco surprise fans with I Said I Love You First, their first collaborative album, blending music and romance in a deeply personal project set for release on March 21.
Selena Gomez is full of surprises, and this time, she’s delivering one of her biggest yet. The multi-talented singer and actress, fresh off an awards season high, has announced a brand-new album—one that she crafted alongside her fiancé, acclaimed producer Benny Blanco.
The project, titled I Said I Love You First, is set to drop on March 21, marking the couple’s first full-length collaboration.
The news came via an Instagram post from Gomez, who teased fans with a playful caption: “I always trick you guys 🥰 my NEW album I Said I Love You First with my best friend [Benny Blanco] is out on 3/21… We can’t wait to share this special project with you soon!”
The post included a glimpse of the album’s cover art, depicting Gomez and Blanco lying together on a bed, seen through the frame of a keyhole—an intimate and intriguing visual that hints at the deeply personal nature of the record.
Adding to the excitement, Gomez also announced the album’s lead single, Scared of Loving You, which appears as the closing track on the project.
This announcement comes at a time when Gomez’s career is reaching new heights. Her latest film, Emilia Pérez, a genre-blending crime drama directed by Jacques Audiard, recently took home top honors at the Cannes Film Festival and is now a major contender at the Academy Awards with 13 nominations.
Gomez plays a key role in the film alongside Zoe Saldaña and Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón, making it one of her most ambitious acting projects to date.
While the film has sparked debates due to casting choices, Gomez has remained vocal about her pride in being part of the production.
On the music front, I Said I Love You First marks Gomez’s first album since 2020’s Rare and follows her Spanish-language EP Revelación.
While she has released standalone singles in the years since, including the hit Single Soon, this will be her first major body of work in five years.
Given that her previous albums have largely drawn inspiration from her personal life, fans are already speculating that this project will offer a deeply introspective look at her relationship with Blanco.
Gomez and Blanco’s musical connection dates back nearly a decade. Blanco co-produced two of Gomez’s hit singles from her 2015 album Revival—Kill Em With Kindness and Same Old Love—before collaborating again in 2019 on I Can’t Get Enough, a track that also featured Tainy and J Balvin.
Their partnership took a more personal turn in 2023, when speculation about their romance began to swirl after the release of Single Soon.
Gomez, known for her playful interactions with fans online, dropped cryptic hints before finally confirming their relationship in December of that year.
Just one year later, the couple stunned fans with their engagement announcement, proving their connection was stronger than ever.
Blanco, who has 11 Grammy nominations to his name, is one of the most sought-after producers in the industry. He has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including Britney Spears, Rihanna, The Weeknd, and SZA.
Though he launched his solo career in 2018 with Eastside, featuring Halsey and Khalid, I Said I Love You First marks a major milestone—his first full-length album as both an artist and a collaborator with Gomez.
Beyond music and film, Gomez has also been expanding her influence in the beauty and wellness space. Her brand, Rare Beauty, continues to grow into one of the most successful celebrity-founded beauty lines, emphasizing inclusivity and mental health awareness.
Through the Rare Impact Fund, she has actively contributed to mental health initiatives, reinforcing her commitment to using her platform for positive change.
Meanwhile, she remains a fan favorite on the small screen with her role in the hit Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, which has been renewed for another season.
With a love story that has unfolded both online and in their music, I Said I Love You First promises to be an album filled with personal truths, emotion, and artistic chemistry. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to hear the full story—March 21 is just around the corner.
