Sarah Hyland Reacts to Husband Wells Adams’ Shocking Traitors Elimination – Why She’s Actually Glad He Lost
It’s not every day that a reality TV veteran gets booted first, but for Wells Adams, his time on The Traitors season 3 was over almost as soon as it began. The former Bachelorette contestant and beloved Bachelor in Paradise bartender found himself on the receiving end of a swift banishment, being the first celebrity cast member voted out of the Peacock hit.
While his wife, actress Sarah Hyland, initially had mixed feelings about his abrupt exit, she has since revealed why she’s actually glad he didn’t last long in the game.
Appearing on The View, Hyland was asked about her husband’s short-lived run on The Traitors and whether she was disappointed by his inability to lie convincingly. But rather than express frustration, she took a different approach.
“He’s such a good guy. I would never use the word ‘disappointed’ and my husband’s name in the same sentence, ever,” Hyland said. “I was sad that they kicked him off so soon, but he’s an amazing, funny human being.”
Then came the real twist.
“I think it’s great that he was kicked off so soon, because it’s not like it had anything to do with his character,” she explained. “They barely knew each other, the Traitors just have to go after someone.”
When cohost Sunny Hostin pointed out that Adams “did not win the lying show,” Hyland laughed and doubled down:
“As his wife, I’m very happy about that!”
For Hyland, her husband’s lack of deception wasn’t a failure—it was proof of his good character. In a game where manipulation and betrayal are rewarded, Wells simply wasn’t built to deceive those around him.
Adams entered The Traitors as part of an all-star cast, which includes reality TV icons, actors, and athletes. The game revolves around a secret group of “Traitors” who murder fellow players each episode while the remaining Faithfuls attempt to identify them and vote them out.
Despite his background in reality TV, Adams quickly became a prime target for suspicion. His naturally charming and strategic demeanor may have made him look a little too good at the game, leading others to assume he was one of the secret Traitors.
On episode 2, the house turned against him, and before he had a real chance to build trust, he was voted out—becoming the first banished player of the season.
After his elimination, Adams spoke about how Hyland reacted when she first saw the episode.
“Yeah, she wasn’t super proud of me,” he admitted with a laugh. “I mean, there’s vows that we said for better or worse, so she can’t divorce me over this. She was bummed, I think.”
Though Hyland later saw the silver lining, her first reaction was one of mild disappointment, especially since both she and Wells thought he had a real shot at winning.
“She ended up watching it this morning. I’m like, ‘What did you think?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, you don’t look that bad.’ And I’m like, ‘It’s that bad, isn’t it?’” Adams recalled. “I think she thought that I would win. I thought that I would win, and then I didn’t. So here we are.”
Despite the elimination, Wells and Sarah continue to be one of Hollywood’s most adored couples. Their relationship, filled with humor and unwavering support, has captivated fans ever since Wells slid into Hyland’s DMs in 2017—a move that kicked off their love story.
They tied the knot in 2022, after a long engagement, and have since supported each other’s careers, whether it’s Hyland’s role in Modern Family and Love Island USA or Wells’ continued involvement in the Bachelor franchise.
Their dynamic is playful and filled with lighthearted jabs, making Wells’ Traitors elimination just another funny moment in their ever-entertaining relationship.
While Adams’ time on The Traitors ended early, the intense game of strategy and deception continues every Thursday on Peacock, with more shocking betrayals, blindsides, and dramatic showdowns ahead.
As for Wells? This might not be the last we see of him in the competitive reality TV world. Though The Traitors wasn’t his game, he’s still a fan-favorite personality, and who knows? Maybe another reality show will come calling.
For now, though, he can take comfort in knowing that while he lost the game—he won at life, with Sarah Hyland cheering him on all the way.
