Lola Tung, star of *The Summer I Turned Pretty*, was left overwhelmed with emotion and said she nearly passed out after Taylor Swift personally acknowledged her with a wave during the 2023 Eras Tour, a surreal moment that deepened her admiration for the artist and marked a highlight in her rising career.

In a moment she says she’ll never forget, *The Summer I Turned Pretty* star Lola Tung revealed that she was left completely stunned — and nearly fainted — after Taylor Swift made a sweet and unexpected gesture toward her during the Eras Tour in 2023.
Tung, who has skyrocketed to fame for her role as Isabel “Belly” Conklin in the hit Prime Video series, attended the concert alongside author Jenny Han, the original creator of the beloved YA novel trilogy that inspired the show.
The event took place at one of Swift’s electrifying stops during her record-breaking Eras Tour, which began in March 2023 and has since become one of the most iconic concert series of the decade.
Tung, then 20 years old, was already a huge Swiftie — often sharing her admiration for Taylor’s music and storytelling. What she didn’t expect, however, was to receive personal attention from the pop superstar herself.

“I was just standing there, taking it all in, and then she looked right at us,” Tung recalled in a recent exclusive interview. “And she waved. I looked at Jenny and said, ‘Wait, did that just happen?’ My knees literally went weak.
I almost passed out.” According to Tung, Swift smiled directly at their section and gave a small wave after noticing Han, whom she reportedly recognized from previous book-to-screen collaborations.
“I mean, she’s Taylor Swift — she didn’t have to do that. But she did. And I’m still recovering.”
Jenny Han, who published *The Summer I Turned Pretty* in 2009 and served as showrunner and executive producer on the series adaptation, has long been an admirer of Swift as well.
The show’s second season featured multiple Taylor Swift songs throughout the episodes, including emotionally charged moments set to “Cruel Summer” and “August” — choices that resonated strongly with fans of both the show and the singer.
Swift even gave her blessing for several tracks to be used, a move that helped elevate the show’s emotional weight and nostalgic tone.
Tung spoke about how surreal it was to have Taylor’s music serve as the backdrop to some of her most dramatic on-screen scenes.
“There’s something about her songs that captures exactly what Belly is feeling,” she said. “To hear ‘August’ playing over a scene I shot just felt… magical.”
The moment at the concert also deepened Tung’s connection with fans, many of whom saw it as a full-circle moment between two powerful female creators — Jenny Han and Taylor Swift — and the young actress whose rise to stardom was shaped by both their works.
Swift’s Eras Tour itself became a cultural juggernaut in 2023, drawing millions of fans worldwide, featuring a 44-song setlist spanning her entire career, and incorporating dazzling visuals and emotional storytelling that mirrored her evolution as an artist.
Lola Tung has continued to balance the whirlwind of fame with grace and humility. Her breakout role on *The Summer I Turned Pretty*, which premiered in June 2022, quickly made her a fan favorite for her honest and heartfelt portrayal of teenage love and identity.
Since then, she has been vocal about the artists and creators who shaped her journey — often naming Swift as one of her biggest inspirations. “I grew up listening to her music. And now I’m acting in a show that uses her songs to tell a story. It’s unreal.”
The actress is currently preparing for the upcoming third season of the series, which is expected to begin filming later this year.
Fans are already speculating whether Swift’s music will once again play a central role, especially with the heightened drama promised in the next chapter of Belly’s complicated love story.
As for that moment with Taylor? “It was only a few seconds,” Tung said with a laugh. “But it felt like everything. I’ll never forget it.”
For a young actress who grew up idolizing the singer, the gesture — small as it was — felt like a dream coming true under the lights of a sold-out stadium. And for her fans, it was a reminder of how, sometimes, art really does connect people in the most unexpected ways.
