Elon Musk sharply criticized Donald Trump for falsely calling the Jeffrey Epstein scandal a Democrat “hoax,” exposing the glaring truth that Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell remains imprisoned while frustration mounts over the lack of accountability and suspected cover-ups, fueling deep political division and demands for transparency.

Musk accuses Trump of being named in Epstein files as public row worsens

On July 16, 2025, Elon Musk publicly challenged former President Donald Trump after Trump dismissed the notorious Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking scandal as a “hoax” orchestrated by Democrats.

The billionaire entrepreneur’s comments came amid escalating controversy surrounding the handling of Epstein’s case and the supposed “client list” tied to powerful figures.

Trump made the explosive hoax claim during a meeting at the White House with the Crown Prince of Bahrain, asserting that the Epstein investigation had been “run by the Democrats for four years.”

He doubled down on this narrative, claiming that files related to Epstein’s crimes were fabricated by Democrats, including former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, as well as former FBI Director James Comey.

“I know it’s a hoax,” Trump said, accusing “some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans” of believing Epstein maintained a client list. According to Trump, those Republicans were unwittingly helping Democrats by pushing the theory.

Elon Musk fired back on his social media platform, X, highlighting glaring inconsistencies in Trump’s claims.

“Wow, amazing that Epstein ‘killed himself’ and Ghislaine is in federal prison for a hoax,” Musk posted, referencing Epstein’s longtime associate and alleged accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after her 2022 conviction for sex trafficking minors on Epstein’s behalf.

Musk further demanded Trump “just release the files and point out which part is the hoax,” expressing frustration over what he sees as a cover-up.

The clash underscores deepening divisions within Trump’s own political base, where frustration has grown over the administration’s handling of the Epstein investigation.

Anti-trans activist Riley Gaines criticized Trump’s dismissive comments about those seeking answers, while comedian Shane Gillis made light of Trump’s evasiveness regarding Epstein-related jokes at the ESPYS.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Pam Bondi, who once claimed to have a “client list” on her desk, faced harsh criticism and was reported to have fired the Manhattan federal prosecutor Maureen Comey—daughter of former FBI Director James Comey—who had been instrumental in building the federal case against Epstein and Maxwell.

Maureen Comey had previously opposed releasing Epstein-related documents, citing the potential embarrassment and harassment of victims. Trump, however, accused her father and other officials of fabricating the Epstein files altogether.

Musk’s relentless online posts—13 times in just over an hour—reflected growing anger that “not a single Epstein client has been prosecuted,” and he warned that many Republicans were nearing a breaking point with the administration’s handling of the matter.

Adding to the intrigue, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly suggested the scandal was being actively covered up, alleging that Epstein’s client list was used as blackmail, and questioned the official narrative that Epstein died by suicide in jail.

FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino had previously implied Epstein’s death was suspicious and that a client list existed. This fueled widespread conspiracy theories that high-profile figures might have been protected from prosecution.

Musk had previously warned that the Trump administration's declaration that Epstein did, in fact, kill himself in prison and did not have a client list would be the 'final straw' for many Republicans

In response to pressure from his base, Trump indicated he might appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Epstein’s connections further—though his comments suggested his primary interest remained proving his claim that the entire Epstein scandal was a Democratic fabrication.

In an interview with John Solomon of JustTheNews.com, Trump said, “I think they could look at all of it. It’s all the same scam. They could look at this Jeffrey Epstein hoax also, because that’s the same stuff that’s all put out by Democrats.”

Trump also expressed suspicion that intelligence and law enforcement officials may have tampered with evidence, drawing parallels to the discredited Steele dossier and the FBI’s investigation into alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 election.

Meanwhile, sources close to Ghislaine Maxwell indicate she is willing to testify before Congress about what she knows regarding Epstein’s files. Currently imprisoned in Florida, Maxwell remains the only person convicted in connection with Epstein’s sex trafficking network.

Insiders say she has not been offered a plea deal and would welcome the opportunity to reveal information to the American public.

“Congressional hearings have been held into everything from JFK’s assassination to 9/11,” a source said. “The Epstein files rank up there with those cases.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi remains at the center of pro-MAGA criticism over the investigation, after contradictory statements about the existence and handling of the Epstein client list.

Although Trump has expressed verbal support for Bondi and authorized her to release credible documents, he simultaneously criticized the time spent on the files, suggesting she had more important matters to attend to.

This unfolding saga highlights the volatile intersection of politics, criminal justice, and conspiracy surrounding one of the most infamous scandals of recent decades.

As Musk’s pointed rebukes to Trump underscore, many within and outside the Republican Party remain deeply skeptical about the administration’s claims and frustrated over unanswered questions that continue to haunt the Epstein case.
