The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is back, but not quite the way you remember him. Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel’s highly anticipated revival of the beloved Netflix series, is set to hit Disney+ with a fresh approach, a darker tone, and the return of fan-favorite characters.

But this isn’t just a continuation—it’s a full-blown resurrection of Matt Murdock’s story, complete with all the moral dilemmas, brutal action, and street-level drama that made the original a hit.

When the series picks up, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is no longer the masked vigilante of New York City. He walked away from the fight one year ago, but the reasons behind his decision remain a mystery. As he pours himself into his legal work, an undeniable hunger for justice still lingers beneath the surface. He’s not just struggling with his past—he’s desperately trying to suppress it.

Meanwhile, his greatest enemy, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), has evolved into something even more dangerous. No longer content with controlling the criminal underworld, Fisk has his sights set on a new kind of power—political power.

His bid to become Mayor of New York City could change everything, forcing Murdock to confront the question he’s been avoiding: Who is he, if not Daredevil?

Behind the Scenes Turmoil Led to a Major Overhaul

Marvel initially began filming an ambitious 18-episode season, but production was abruptly halted due to the 2023 Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes.

When the team reviewed the footage, something felt off. The show was stuck between being a full reboot and a continuation of the Netflix series.

Ultimately, Marvel decided to cut the first season down to nine episodes and turn the rest of the material into a second season, set to begin filming just five days after season one’s release.

To fix the show’s direction, Marvel brought in Dario Scardapane (The Punisher) as the new showrunner, ensuring the story embraced the gritty realism fans loved about the original.

The decision to reintroduce Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), and Wilson Bethel (Bullseye) as part of the canon was key to grounding the show’s emotional core.

Marvel has promised some of the most intense, visceral fight scenes ever put to screen. Phil Silvera, the mastermind behind the unforgettable hallway fights of the Netflix series, returns as stunt coordinator.

According to insiders, one particular stunt—a stuntman falling backward down a flight of stairs without wires or pulleys—even made Charlie Cox audibly gasp on set.

“You feel every hit,” director Justin Benson explains. “There are no superpowers here, just real consequences. Every punch, every broken bone—it all hurts.”

More Than Just a Fight—It’s a Psychological War

The battle between Murdock and Fisk isn’t just physical—it’s psychological. Both men are playing roles: Daredevil is wearing his Matt Murdock mask, and Kingpin is wearing his Wilson Fisk mask.

One of the most anticipated moments of the season is a tense diner confrontation between the two—their first face-to-face meeting in years. It’s a quiet scene, but one filled with a decade of history, animosity, and obsession.

“They define each other,” says Scardapane. “They’re enemies, but they also share a unique, unspoken connection that makes every encounter electrifying.”

Jon Bernthal’s Punisher returns in a pivotal role, and Marvel isn’t holding back. Murdock, in a desperate moment, turns to Frank Castle for help—to do something he himself cannot.

What unfolds is a series of explosive, unpredictable confrontations that push both characters to their limits.

“The scenes with Jon are just insane,” says Marvel exec Brad Winderbaum. “Frank is a bull in a china shop, and Matt knows the cost of unleashing him.”

10 Lessons The MCU Needs To Learn From Marvel Netflix To Make Daredevil: Born Again A Hit

A Darker Threat Looms—Muse, the Blood-Painted Killer

As if Fisk and Punisher weren’t enough, a terrifying new villain enters the picture: Muse, a sadistic serial killer who uses human blood to create grotesque artwork.

Described as one of the darkest characters Marvel has ever put to screen, his presence will push Daredevil to a moral breaking point.

Fans should be warned—Muse’s episodes will be disturbing, with scenes that may be hard to watch. “This isn’t just a street-level villain,” says producer Sana Amanat. “He’s a true monster.”

With Marvel shifting towards multi-season storytelling, Daredevil: Born Again is confirmed to have at least two seasons, and possibly more. But could this revival open the door for more Defenders?

Rumors are swirling about Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones making an appearance, with other Defenders—Luke Cage and even Iron Fist—potentially not far behind. While nothing is confirmed, Winderbaum teases, “We’re exploring all possibilities. There’s so much history to play with.”

For now, season one drops on March 4 with a two-episode premiere, and fans are counting down the days. With brutal action, psychological warfare, and a collision of past and present, Daredevil: Born Again isn’t just bringing back the devil—it’s setting the MCU on fire.
