Cobra Kai Stars Mary Mouser and Tanner Buchanan Shock Fans With Engagement News as Series Wraps
Just as Cobra Kai prepares to deliver its final roundhouse kick, two of its biggest stars have dropped a surprise that has fans buzzing.
Mary Mouser and Tanner Buchanan, who have spent six seasons as castmates on the hit Karate Kid sequel series, announced their engagement in a heartfelt Instagram post, confirming what many had suspected for years.
“This is such a special moment in our lives, the closing of one chapter and celebrating the continuation of another,” they wrote.
“We’re so grateful for the love and support, and though we’re partial to having our private moments, we’re excited to share this check-in to our world.”
For years, speculation swirled about their offscreen relationship, fueled by their undeniable chemistry on the show. Mouser, 28, and Buchanan, 26, played Sam LaRusso and Robby Keene, whose romance was a key part of Cobra Kai’s early seasons.
While their characters eventually broke up, rumors about the actors’ real-life relationship only grew stronger.
From red carpet appearances to vacations—including a 2022 trip to Disneyland Paris where they were spotted in matching outfits—the clues were there.
However, the couple remained tight-lipped, choosing to keep their relationship away from the public eye—until now.
The engagement comes at an emotional moment, as Cobra Kai nears the end of its wildly successful run. The show, which first premiered on YouTube Red in 2018 before finding a second life on Netflix, quickly became one of the most talked-about reboots in recent memory.
Combining nostalgia with fresh storytelling, it introduced a new generation to the Karate Kid universe while bringing back original stars like Ralph Macchio and William Zabka.
After being renewed for a sixth season in 2023, the showrunners confirmed that it would be the final chapter.
Buchanan, who has been a fan favorite since the show’s early days, recently reflected on how close the cast has become.
“Mary is a hundred percent my closest confidante on the series,” he said at a Cobra Kai finale event, adding, “But to be honest, literally everybody… There’s not one person that we don’t hang out with and have fun with, and we truly keep saying that we’re going to be around in each other’s lives forever.”
His words now carry even more weight in light of their engagement, proving that the bonds formed on set extend far beyond the screen.
As the series heads into its final episodes, Mouser’s character, Sam, is set to play a crucial role. The show’s creators have teased that she will be an “agent of change” in the conclusion, signaling that her arc will be instrumental in bringing the story full circle.
Meanwhile, Buchanan’s Robby Keene remains one of the most compelling characters in the series, having transformed from a troubled teen into a skilled martial artist caught between rival dojos.
Beyond Cobra Kai, both actors have been making moves in their careers. Buchanan, who gained attention with his role in He’s All That, has been eyed for multiple upcoming projects, while Mouser has built a strong presence in both television and voice acting.
Their engagement adds another layer to their shared journey, one that fans will undoubtedly follow with great interest.
While the couple has not yet shared wedding details, the announcement has sent a wave of excitement through the Cobra Kai fandom. For a series that has thrived on unexpected twists, this real-life love story might just be the best surprise yet.
And though Cobra Kai is coming to an end, its legacy—and the relationships it helped create—will live on.
