Chloe Fineman reveals that Harry Styles was “devastated” by her awkward impression of him, despite her reputation as a master impersonator on SNL.

SNL's Chloe Fineman Says Host Elon Musk Made Her Cry

Chloe Fineman has built a reputation as one of Saturday Night Live’s top impressionists, but even she admits that not every impersonation is a hit—especially when the person she’s mimicking is in the room.

The comedian recently revealed that her attempt at imitating Harry Styles didn’t quite land, leaving the pop icon visibly unimpressed.

Speaking on the red carpet at SNL’s 50th anniversary special, Fineman confessed to Amelia Dimoldenberg that her Styles impression is, in her own words, “really bad.”

She recounted the awkward moment when Styles himself witnessed her attempt firsthand. “I did it and he was at the table and was so devastated by how bad it was,” she said, laughing.

To demonstrate, Fineman gave a stilted, croaky rendition of Styles’ voice, saying, “Anyway, I’m Harry Styles, anyway,” in an exaggerated British accent.

It’s not the first time Fineman has attempted to master the voices of British celebrities. She admitted that she has a bit of an obsession with British accents, which has served her well in the past.

Though she is best known for her uncanny portrayals of American stars like Jennifer Coolidge and Drew Barrymore, she went viral for her spot-on recreation of Nicole Kidman’s now-iconic AMC Theatres ad, which required her to perfect an Australian accent.

Despite her many successes, Styles remains a tough one for Fineman to crack. The singer-songwriter has only hosted Saturday Night Live once, back in November 2019—just two months after Fineman joined the show as a featured player.

The two never shared a sketch together on SNL, but Fineman did get a chance to channel Styles in a different setting.

In a sketch for The Tonight Show, she played Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge opposite Jimmy Fallon’s version of Styles. In the bit, Fineman delivered an exaggeratedly posh line as Waller-Bridge: “Oh, Harry, hi. A FaceTime, quite cheeky.

Well, you’ve caught me in the middle of dinner, a cheesy, drippy little slut of a pizza.” The performance was a hit, but her actual attempt at Styles himself? Less so.

Fineman’s revelation about Styles’ reaction came amid a star-studded night celebrating SNL’s five-decade legacy. The SNL50 special brought together current cast members, show alumni, and a host of celebrity guests, all gathered at the legendary Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center.

The event was preceded by SNL50: The Red Carpet, a special pre-show hosted by Today and Morning Joe anchor Willie Geist alongside former SNL cast member Leslie Jones.

The main event—a three-hour live primetime special—aired on NBC and Peacock, drawing in fans eager to see their favorite SNL moments revisited.

For Fineman, SNL50 was just the latest chapter in her meteoric rise on the show. Since joining in 2019, she has quickly become one of the series’ standout performers, known for her ability to transform into a variety of celebrities with uncanny accuracy.

While her Styles impression may not have won over the man himself, it’s clear that Fineman’s talent for mimicry has made her an essential part of SNL’s current lineup.

As for Styles, he remains one of the entertainment industry’s most in-demand stars. Since his 2019 SNL hosting gig, he has solidified his status as both a music and fashion icon, releasing critically acclaimed albums and selling out stadiums worldwide.

His star power has also extended to Hollywood, with roles in films like Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman.

Given his global appeal and distinct voice, it’s no surprise that even a seasoned impressionist like Fineman might struggle to capture his essence.

While Styles’ reaction to her impersonation may have been less than enthusiastic, Fineman is unlikely to stop trying her hand at new voices anytime soon.

Her ability to take on new personas has been one of the highlights of SNL’s recent seasons, and with the show continuing to evolve, there’s no telling which celebrity she’ll attempt next.

Whether or not she ever perfects Styles’ voice remains to be seen—but knowing Fineman, she’ll keep audiences laughing either way.
