Brad Pitt escalates his legal battle with Angelina Jolie by demanding her private messages about the Château Miraval sale, accusing her of secretly conspiring with a Russian billionaire to undermine him—an emotional clash over trust, betrayal, and the unraveling of a once-shared dream.
The long-running legal feud between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has taken a dramatic new turn, as Pitt is now demanding access to private messages and documents related to Jolie’s controversial sale of her stake in their French winery, Château Miraval.
The development marks yet another flashpoint in a dispute that has become increasingly bitter and complex, more than eight years after the couple’s high-profile separation.
On July 9, 2025, Pitt’s legal team filed new court documents in Los Angeles Superior Court, asserting that Jolie intentionally concealed communications that could be crucial to determining whether she had the legal right to sell her share in the winery without Pitt’s consent.
Specifically, Pitt is requesting access to emails, text messages, and other correspondence between Jolie, her legal advisors, and the Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, to whom she sold her stake in 2021.
According to Pitt’s team, these messages may reveal that Jolie deliberately went behind his back in an effort to undermine his control over the winery, which the former couple purchased together in 2008.
Pitt’s lawyers argue that Jolie’s sale to Shefler—owner of the Stoli Group—was not only a breach of their mutual agreement but was done out of “malice” following the deterioration of their relationship.
“The evidence we seek is central to understanding Jolie’s motives and the extent to which she acted in bad faith,” stated one of Pitt’s attorneys during the latest court session.
The court filings further accuse Jolie of obstructing discovery by withholding relevant documents and refusing to sit for additional depositions.
Jolie has yet to publicly comment on the new legal motion, but her representatives have previously insisted that she acted within her rights and that the sale was legal and transparent.
Her team has argued that Pitt is attempting to “control” the narrative and retaliate against her for decisions made after their split. The Jolie camp maintains that she only sold her stake after negotiations with Pitt broke down, leaving her no other viable financial option.
This clash over the vineyard has been ongoing since Jolie’s 2021 sale to Shefler, a deal Pitt claims was intentionally orchestrated to hurt him.
He has argued that Shefler’s involvement has been “hostile” and disruptive to the winery’s business operations, and that Jolie knew the sale would negatively affect both him and the brand.
Miraval, located in the Provence region of southern France, is not only a valuable property but also a passion project for Pitt, who has been deeply involved in its management and development for years.
Château Miraval gained global attention not just for its award-winning rosé but also as the site of Pitt and Jolie’s 2014 wedding. The couple purchased the estate for around \$25 million in 2008, and it became a symbol of their shared investments and aspirations.
Following their divorce proceedings, the ownership and management of Miraval became one of the most hotly contested assets in their split.
Legal analysts have observed that the dispute is far more than just a business disagreement—it reflects the lingering animosity between the two stars and the complexity of untangling their former lives.
The current battle may also set legal precedents in matters of co-owned property and fiduciary duty between once-married business partners.
Meanwhile, Shefler himself has become a controversial figure in this drama. Pitt’s legal team claims that Shefler’s acquisition of Jolie’s stake was not just business but an attempt to gain a foothold in a luxury brand with deep emotional and financial ties to Pitt.
They argue that the Stoli Group’s aggressive tactics since the acquisition are evidence of strategic interference.
As the case proceeds, the court will need to determine whether Jolie indeed violated her contractual obligations and whether her communications with Shefler could be considered evidence of intent to harm Pitt’s interests.
If Pitt’s request is granted, Jolie may be compelled to hand over sensitive and potentially damaging personal messages, a move that could shift the tone of the case dramatically.
The next court hearing is expected later this summer, and it could prove pivotal.
While both stars have continued their careers—Pitt with several upcoming film projects and Jolie focused on her humanitarian work and directing—this legal standoff remains a public and painful reminder of the fallout from one of Hollywood’s most iconic relationships.
For now, all eyes remain on the courtroom, where the future of Château Miraval—and possibly more—is on the line.
