TEXAS (WHNT) — All over social media, people are praising the Texas legend George Strait following a report that he donated several million dollars to flood relief. However, is this report true?
7Media posted an article on July 6 titled “George Strait Steps Up Amid Texas Flood Tragedy — and His Next Move Leaves Fans in Awe.”
Houston Mayor calls out former city employee for ‘deeply inappropriate’ TikTok posts about Camp Mystic, flood victims
In this article, it says, “In the wake of the tragedy, country music legend George Strait, long known for his humility and guarded personal life, made a rare public gesture of solidarity.
The King of Country donated a staggering $3.5 million to aid flood victims and help families still searching for loved ones swept away in the torrents.”
Reading further, the article also says that this isn’t what stunned fans the most. “What Strait did next left fans and community members alike stunned.”
The 7Media article says that Strait was “Wearing a plain ball cap, jeans, and boots, [and] joined a volunteer crew delivering meals and water to displaced families.
Eyewitnesses said he took time to speak with survivors, listened to their stories, and even held a small child who had just been reunited with her parents.
Later that evening, Strait met privately with several families who had lost children in the flood. According to those present, he promised to personally cover funeral costs for every child victim and to establish a scholarship fund in their memory, ensuring their names would never be forgotten.”
People all over the internet are praising Strait for his reported donation and help for the victims and families involved in the deadly flooding.
“What a good human George Strait is. Donated money then goes in person to aid the flood victims in Texas and I read he has offered to pay the funeral arrangements for every one of the souls who died. We need more like him in the world,” one commenter wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“George Strait our beloved Texan,” another comment read.
Other comments name Strait as a “Hero” and a “Class act.”
This sounds not too far out of the realm of possibilities for Strait, as he is known for holding benefit concerts to help those impacted by natural disasters. In 2017, George Strait announced a benefit concert, Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief.
GeorgeStrait.com said the one-hour televised special featured celebrity participants and performances from the King of Country himself, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen.
The announcement said that proceeds were to benefit United Way of Greater Houston, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Direct Relief, Feeding Texas, The Mayor’s Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief (administered by the Greater Houston Community Fund) and RebuildTx.org through the Hand in Hand Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund managed by Comic Relief Inc.
The concert directly raised over $22 million for hurricane recovery. The Texas Legislative Conference then awarded Strait as the 2017 Texan of the Year.

However, despite all of his generosity throughout the years, Strait and his team have yet to release an official statement on how the legend will support the victims of the deadly floods over the Fourth of July weekend in the Texas Hill Country.
His team told News 19 that they didn’t know where the story about the multi-million dollar donation originated.
“We have not issued a statement about aid as we are still determining how best to support the community,” Strait’s team told News 19.
Other celebrities are “reported” to have donated to relief efforts, such as Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. A Threads post says this:
“BREAKING: Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez Each Donate $1 Million to Direct Relief for Emergency Aid For Texas Hill Country Floods With Taylor Sending a Powerful Message to Donald Trump on His One Big Beautiful Bill,” with a picture of what appears to be Swift and Gomez standing beside floodwaters.
Another Threads post says this:
“BREAKING: Taylor Swift and Jelly Roll Cross Paths, Shook hands while Visiting Texas Hill Country Flood Zones, Bolstering Relief with $1M and $50M Donations as Taylor send Crucial Message To Donald Trump on his On Big Beautiful Bill.”
However, neither Swift, Gomez, nor Jelly Roll has provided comments about the bill, donations or about the floods.

So y’all join with us and try to help out as much as you can and keep sending prayers and I’ll keep you posted.”

Robert Earl Keen
“As most of you know, the Texas Hill Country—and namely, my hometown of Kerrville—has been crippled by unprecedented flooding on the 4th of July.
This has resulted in devastation across the area, and there are still many missing from the event, including campers from Camp Mystic, which holds a special place in mine and my family’s hearts, as both of my daughters attended summer camp there.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected, and special thanks for the amazing support of the first responders from the community and all over Texas, rushing to aid those in need.
I will be working on a benefit to support the community, and more details to follow as soon as we know them. In the meantime, please support those in need via the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.
That’s the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country—there’s a link here to donate to get aid to those in need as soon as possible. I will be donating 100% of the merchandise sales from our current tour to the Community Foundation as well.
My sincere prayers and condolences to all those involved in this tragedy, and please stay tuned as I work in partnership with the community to continue to support those in need. Click here to help
