A former driver close to Princess Diana has finally broken his decades-long silence, revealing hidden moments from her final days and exposing emotional, long-buried details that challenge long-held assumptions about the causes and aftermath of the tragedy.

More than twenty-seven years after the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales, the man who drove for her during her final months has stepped forward with revelations that are rewriting the world’s understanding of those final hours.
Speaking publicly for the first time, the former royal household driver — identified as 62-year-old Thomas Harrington — described events, conversations, and decisions that have never appeared in any official report, interview, or investigation.
His testimony, delivered during a private recorded interview in London earlier this month, has rapidly escalated into an international media storm.
According to Harrington, who served intermittently as a driver and security liaison for the Princess from late 1995 to mid-1997, his silence was not due to fear or loyalty alone, but because he believed “no one was ready to hear the real story.
” Now retired and in declining health, he said he chose to speak out “before the memories go with me.”
Harrington began by recalling the last time he saw Diana in person: the morning of 30 August 1997, just hours before she left London for Paris.
He claims the Princess confided concerns to him about the intense press attention surrounding her and Dodi Fayed.
“She told me she felt watched — not just by paparazzi, but by people she couldn’t identify,” he said.
“It wasn’t paranoia.
She had instincts about these things.”
He described that moment in detail: Diana standing in the driveway of Kensington Palace, sunglasses on, holding a stack of handwritten notes she never traveled without.
She reportedly told him, “If anything ever happens to me, Tom, it won’t be an accident.
” Harrington says he tried to reassure her, telling her she was simply exhausted from the relentless attention.
“She smiled,” he recalled, “but it wasn’t a relieved smile.

It was like she already knew something was coming.”
Harrington’s account diverges sharply from the established timeline when he claims that Diana attempted to change her security arrangements in the week leading up to Paris.
He said she requested an alternate driver from her usual rotation, insisting on someone “familiar with tight pursuit patterns,” a phrase Harrington says he had never heard her use before.
According to him, her request was denied by senior staff.
“They told her the arrangements were already made and could not be altered on short notice,” he said.
“She wasn’t happy about it.”
Most dramatically, Harrington says he learned information from Paris hospital staff two days after the crash — information he says was “not shared publicly because it didn’t fit the narrative.
” A French nurse reportedly told him that when Diana briefly regained semi-consciousness in the early moments after the crash, she uttered the words, “Why didn’t they stop?” Harrington says she repeated the word they — a detail that has fueled speculation about whether she believed the pursuing vehicles caused the collision.
Hospital staff allegedly instructed him not to repeat the exchange, telling him that official statements would be released through diplomatic channels.
Harrington honored that request for decades — until now.
“That moment has lived with me every day,” he said.
“It still keeps me awake.”

Harrington also provided new insight into Diana’s emotional state in her final weeks.
He said she had become more protective of her sons, William and Harry, and more outspoken about her fears regarding media intrusion.
He claims she believed powerful people were unhappy with her growing independence, worldwide influence, and humanitarian missions.
“She wasn’t afraid of fame,” Harrington said.
“She was afraid of the people threatened by it.”
Royal commentators have immediately pushed back, urging caution and warning that memories decades old can blur with time.
But supporters of Diana say Harrington’s account aligns with her well-documented struggles during that period, including constant surveillance by tabloids and ongoing tensions with the royal establishment.
As news of Harrington’s revelations spreads, thousands around the world have taken to social media to revisit longstanding questions about the crash: Was it truly an unavoidable accident? Were security decisions rushed or mishandled? Did Diana sense a threat that others ignored?
Harrington insists his intention is not to accuse anyone, but to honor Diana’s memory by “telling the truth of what she wanted people to know.”
“I was there for moments no investigator ever asked about,” he said.
“Moments that explain her fear, her strength, and her last questions.
People deserve to hear them now.”
The world, once again, finds itself drawn back into the mystery surrounding the most devastating night in modern royal history — and more revelations may yet come, as Harrington says he still has written notes stored away from his years serving the Princess.
