After enduring sexual assault, teenage pregnancy, and the devastating loss of her first love in a car crash, Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mayci Neeley reveals that it was her unborn son who ultimately saved her from suicide — a heartbreaking yet inspiring story of survival, motherhood, and healing.
Mayci Neeley, one of the breakout stars of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, is opening up about the darkest and most defining chapter of her life — a story of loss, trauma, and unexpected salvation.
In an emotional new interview with ET’s Deidre Behar, the 31-year-old reality star broke down while discussing her deeply personal memoir Told You So, set for release on October 7.
The book chronicles her journey from surviving sexual assault to losing her first love and nearly taking her own life — only to be saved by the unborn son who would become her anchor to hope.
Neeley, now a mother of three and happily married to husband Jacob Neeley, began her story with a painful revelation.
While attending college, she was trapped in an abusive relationship that would leave permanent scars.
“I was drugged, raped, and that’s how I lost my virginity,” she said softly, her voice cracking as she recalled those early years.
“It took me years to even say those words out loud.”
After escaping that nightmare, she met Arik Mack — a young man she described as “fun, goofy, and the light I didn’t know I needed.
” Their relationship was fast, raw, and full of love.
But at just 19, Mayci found out she was pregnant.
“I was terrified,” she admitted.
“I didn’t know how to tell my parents.
I didn’t know how to be a mom.
But Arik was so excited.
He kept saying, ‘We’re going to be the best team.’”
Then, tragedy struck.
When Mayci was just 13 weeks pregnant, Arik was killed in a car accident.
The news shattered her world.
“I screamed until my throat bled,” she recalled.
“It didn’t feel real.
He was supposed to be there for the first ultrasound.
He was supposed to hold our baby.”
In the weeks that followed, Mayci fell into a dark spiral.
Alone, grieving, and pregnant, she admits she began to think about ending her life.
“I thought about it every single day,” she said through tears.
“I didn’t want to live without him.
I felt like my life had ended too.”
But something — or someone — stopped her.
“It was my son,” she said, placing her hand on her heart.
“Even before he was born, Hudson saved me.
I would feel him kick, and it reminded me that he needed me.
That he was half of Arik.
That he was still here.”
Hudson, now 10 years old, remains the reason Mayci says she’s still alive today.
“I tell him all the time — you saved Mommy,” she said, smiling through tears.
“He doesn’t fully understand it yet, but one day he will.”
Mayci’s life has since found new joy.
She met Jacob Neeley shortly after Hudson’s birth, describing him as “a miracle I didn’t see coming.
” Jacob stepped into the father role with grace and love.
“He treated Hudson like his own from day one,” she said.
“That’s when I started to heal.
” Together, they’ve built a blended family that includes their two daughters, Harlow and Charli.
Still, Mayci hasn’t forgotten the pain that shaped her story.
Her upcoming memoir dives deep into those hidden years — not for sympathy, she insists, but to reach others who feel unseen.
“I want other women to know that no matter what’s been taken from you, your story isn’t over,” she said.
“There’s beauty on the other side of pain.
You just have to stay long enough to see it.”
Her husband Jacob echoed that sentiment in a behind-the-scenes moment after filming.
“When she told me everything she’d been through, I was in awe of her strength,” he said.
“She’s the bravest woman I know.”
As for Hudson, Mayci says he’s growing into the kind of boy his late father would be proud of.
“He’s funny, gentle, and kind — just like Arik,” she said, smiling.
“Sometimes I look at him and think, maybe Arik found a way to stay.”
With Told You So just days from release, the reality star says she’s finally at peace with her past — and ready to share it all.
“It’s scary being this vulnerable,” she confessed.
“But if even one person feels less alone because of my story, it’ll all be worth it.”
And when asked what she would tell her younger self, the one who almost gave up all those years ago, Mayci paused for a long moment before whispering, “Hold on.
The best part of your story hasn’t even started yet.”
