Colton Underwood and Kaitlyn Bristowe, drawing from their own life experiences, have launched Hulu’s first-ever virgins-only dating show Are You My First?, a bold and emotional experiment that challenges stereotypes, sparks heated debate, and offers a surprisingly heartfelt look at love without physical pressure.
Bachelor Nation is no stranger to bold experiments in love, but its latest spinoff may be its most eyebrow-raising yet.
Former “Bachelor” Colton Underwood and “Bachelorette” star Kaitlyn Bristowe have teamed up as co-hosts of Are You My First?, the first-ever dating show exclusively for contestants who have never been intimate before.
The series quietly premiered this week on Hulu, and it is already sparking conversations about love, faith, and the evolving role of reality television in America’s dating culture.
The premise is simple yet provocative: a group of single men and women, all virgins by choice or circumstance, move into a luxury villa in Los Angeles where they embark on a weeks-long journey of emotional connection, awkward firsts, and, for some, the hope of finding a partner who respects their values.
Unlike traditional dating shows that lean heavily on physical chemistry, Are You My First? focuses on conversations, shared experiences, and the vulnerability of people navigating relationships without rushing intimacy.
For Colton Underwood, the concept hits especially close to home. The former NFL player turned reality star made headlines during his 2019 season of The Bachelor after openly discussing his virginity on national television.
At the time, his candor drew both praise and criticism, with some calling it groundbreaking and others dismissing it as a gimmick.
Years later, Underwood says this new series gives him a chance to reclaim the narrative.
“I know what it feels like to be judged for your choices, to feel pressure to be someone you’re not,” Underwood explained in the show’s press announcement.
“This show isn’t about shame or waiting for marriage—it’s about people being honest about where they are in their lives, and finding love on their own terms.”
Kaitlyn Bristowe, known for her quick wit and outspoken nature, brings a different perspective.
As she revealed in a recent Hulu interview, she initially thought the idea sounded “a little crazy,” but after meeting the cast she was moved by their sincerity. “These people are brave,”
Bristowe said. “They’re putting themselves out there in a very vulnerable way, and it’s not about making fun of them—it’s about celebrating a part of the dating world that rarely gets shown on TV.”
The timing of the show also coincides with major life updates for its hosts. Underwood and his husband, political strategist Jordan C. Brown, recently welcomed their first child, making Underwood a new dad at 32.
“Becoming a father has changed everything for me,” he said in a sit-down with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s made me even more empathetic and patient. Honestly, I think it makes me a better host.”
Meanwhile, Bristowe, 39, has re-entered the dating scene following her split from fellow Bachelorette alum Jason Tartick.
She admitted she found herself relating to contestants more than she expected.
“When you’re starting over, it doesn’t matter how old you are or what you’ve been through—you feel the same mix of excitement and fear,” she said.
Early episodes of Are You My First? feature everything from heartfelt confessions to humorous icebreakers, including one contestant nervously admitting that he had never been kissed.
Another revealed that she had faced ridicule from friends for “waiting too long,” while others shared stories of cultural and religious expectations that shaped their decisions.
The show’s producers are leaning into authenticity, resisting the temptation to push contestants into “firsts” for the sake of shock value.
Instead, the focus is on what happens when people connect without the distractions of physical expectations.
Still, fans of reality TV shouldn’t worry—the series doesn’t skimp on drama.
Tensions flare as alliances form, crushes develop, and jealousies spark, all while the contestants wrestle with their own insecurities.
Social media reaction has been divided. Some viewers praise the concept as refreshing and overdue, a much-needed alternative to the hyper-sexualized landscape of dating shows.
Others dismiss it as yet another Bachelor Nation gimmick designed to grab attention.
“This feels like a parody of itself,” one Twitter user wrote, while another countered: “Honestly? I’m here for the wholesomeness. Not everything has to be about hooking up.”
Industry insiders, however, see potential in the series. Streaming platforms are increasingly chasing niche audiences, and Are You My First? taps into both the Bachelor Nation fanbase and broader cultural conversations about love, purity, and personal choice.
If successful, it could pave the way for more unconventional dating experiments in the future.
As for Underwood and Bristowe, they say they’re simply grateful for the chance to host something that feels meaningful.
“We laugh a lot, we cry a lot, and we’re rooting for these people,” Bristowe said. “At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about—hope.”
With its unique concept, high-profile hosts, and already-buzzing fan chatter, Are You My First? could either become Hulu’s next sleeper hit or one of Bachelor Nation’s strangest footnotes. Either way, it’s hard to look away.
