😱 Brad Keselowski’s Shocking Off-Track Injury – The Real Story Behind the Break! 😱
Brad Keselowski, a name synonymous with NASCAR excellence, faces one of the most unexpected challenges of his career—not on the racetrack, but on a slick patch of ice.
The 2012 Cup Series champion and co-owner of RFK Racing shocked the racing world when he revealed that he broke his femur in a freak accident during a family ski trip in December 2025.
The injury was severe.
As Keselowski recounted, the break was not compound, but the pain surpassed any he’d endured in his racing career—from broken fingers and ribs to a pre-racing broken nose.
Emergency surgery in Boone, North Carolina, inserted titanium hardware into his leg, setting the stage for a grueling recovery.

The timing couldn’t be worse.
The NASCAR season opener, the Clash at Bowman Grey Stadium, was just weeks away on February 1st, followed closely by the prestigious Daytona 500 on February 15th.
The standard recovery time for a femur fracture ranges from 8 to 12 weeks, placing Keselowski’s potential return right on the edge of the Daytona cutoff.
Despite the medical timeline, Keselowski is cautious.
“If all the rehab went perfect, we’d be ready literally the day of the clash,” he explained.
“That seemed foolish. No margin for error, no testing, just show up and hope. That’s not how championship teams operate.”
As a result, RFK Racing announced that Cory Lejoy would take the wheel of the flagship number six Ford for the Clash.
Lejoy’s sudden promotion sent ripples through NASCAR circles.
With 276 Cup starts, he’s a solid mid-pack driver but hasn’t yet broken into superstar status.
However, Lejoy’s history at Bowman Grey is notable—he won an ARCA race there in 2012, proving he knows the track’s chaotic quarter-mile concrete oval well.
What makes Lejoy’s story compelling is his racing lineage.
He’s a third-generation driver from a family steeped in motorsports royalty.

His grandfather Dawn is enshrined in the New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame, and his father Randy secured back-to-back Xfinity Championships in the late ’90s.
Yet Lejoy’s Cup career has been a grind with underfunded teams, making this opportunity with RFK Racing a significant chance to prove himself in top-tier equipment.
Lejoy expressed gratitude and determination on social media, wishing Keselowski a speedy recovery and setting his sights on a trophy at “The Madhouse”—Bowman Grey’s infamous nickname.
For Lejoy, the Clash is more than an exhibition; it’s a potential launching pad to greater prominence.
Meanwhile, Keselowski’s rehab regimen is intense—six to eight hours daily with a dedicated medical team from Atrium Health.
The injury’s complexity deepened with nerve damage; he initially lost sensation from knee to hip, complicating recovery.

Encouragingly, sensation is returning, and he can nearly walk unassisted and lift his leg under his own power.
Even amid his own pain, Keselowski found perspective.
On the same day as his accident, news broke of a close friend, Greg Biffle, surviving a serious plane crash.
“I was thinking I was having one of the worst days of my life,” Keselowski said, “and then you see something like that, you just think to yourself, ‘My problems can be way worse.’”
That mindset fuels his determination to return to racing.
The critical moment lies ahead: a medical evaluation scheduled for February 5th at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
NASCAR rules allow a closed test to assess whether a driver can physically handle the demands of racing.
Keselowski must prove he can operate the car—pedals, steering, and enduring g-forces—safely and effectively over the grueling 500-mile Daytona 500.
If he passes, Keselowski will return to the seat he’s held for over 15 years without missing a points-paying Cup race—a streak of 581 consecutive starts dating back to 2009.
If not, Lejoy will continue behind the wheel, potentially making his debut at one of motorsport’s most prestigious events.
RFK Racing President Chip Bowowers remains optimistic, praising Keselowski’s enthusiasm and progress.
“Everything’s going as planned,” he told SiriusXM NASCAR radio.

Keselowski has even logged simulator time, an encouraging sign that his mind is ready even if his body still heals.
For Keselowski, missing Daytona would be a bitter blow—not just for the points chase returning in 2026 but because the Daytona 500 is the crown jewel of NASCAR.
At 41, he recognizes his window for another victory is narrowing, but he remains committed to racing into his late 40s.
This injury serves as a stark reminder of how fragile a racing career can be.
A simple slip on ice off the track can derail months of preparation and shift the spotlight onto a driver who has spent years waiting for his moment.

As the NASCAR world watches and waits, Cory Lejoy prepares to seize his unexpected opportunity at Bowman Grey.
Meanwhile, Brad Keselowski grinds through rehab, counting down the days until he can prove that champions don’t just race—they fight to return.
The truth about Keselowski’s injury is more than a broken bone.
It’s a story of resilience, unexpected chances, and the relentless pursuit of passion in the face of adversity.
The next chapter will be written at Charlotte Motor Speedway on February 5th—when the question of whether the king of RFK Racing will reclaim his throne or pass the torch for a while will finally be answered.
