The action star recently appeared in the latest Men of the Year issue of GQ Magazine, where he openly discussed the controversy, including accusations that his frequent lateness on the set of Red One led to an additional $50 million in production costs, pushing the film’s total budget to a staggering $250 million.

Allegations of Lateness and Production Delays

According to sources cited by The Wrap in April, the 52-year-old actor was reportedly late to set by up to eight hours, forcing the entire crew to accommodate his schedule.

Responding to GQ, Johnson admitted, “Yes, this did happen.

But by the way, it wasn’t that number.

These rumors are crazy and ridiculous.”

Reports also suggested that Black Adam star Johnson was not just late for an average of seven to eight hours per day but also missed entire shooting days, causing production costs to soar into eight-figure territory.

One insider described the situation to The Wrap as “a total disaster,” while another claimed, “Dwayne truly doesn’t care.” However, Johnson has dismissed these claims as nonsense.

Support from Co-Stars and Crew

Chris Evans, who co-stars with Johnson in Red One, came to his defense, stating, “Dwayne works out in the mornings before coming to set.

This is something the producers, directors, and his entire team are well aware of.

So that’s basically it.

It’s not like he suddenly shows up late, and I wouldn’t even call it late.”

Director Jake Kasdan, who helms Red One, also defended Johnson and reinforced Evans’ statement, saying, “Dwayne has never missed a day of work.

He has a lot on his plate.

Sometimes he might arrive late, but this is Hollywood—that happens to everyone.

Honestly, I’ve done three major films with him, and I’ve never seen him be anything but fantastic with everyone on set.”
