‘This man is compensating for something’: Taylor Sheridan Can Never Be Kevin Costner as ‘Yellowstone’ Fans Still Can’t Get Over His Cringiest Scene

Fans hated Taylor Sheridan giving a more meaty role to his character, Travis Wheatley, in Yellowstone Season 5B which turned out to be cringe.

Taylor Sheridan impressed no one with the shirtless scene in Yellowstone.

Fans still can’t stop discussing how cringe was it to watch the creator trying to promote himself as this macho man in the series.

Sheridan tried to replace Costner’s John Dutton with his Travis Wheatley as the no-nonsense ranch owner who is the toughest man in the series.

The creator also tried to portray him as a ladies’ man, giving his character a much younger girlfriend, played by Bella Hadid.

We also see a couple of other women entertaining him in several scenes.

Sheridan’s obsession with appearing shirtless in his own production was earlier seen in Special Ops: Lioness, where he plays CIA operative Cody Spears.

Taylor Sheridan‘s Yellowstone elevated one character in its final season to compensate for Kevin Costner‘s absence. However, not all fans were impressed that the creator brought himself in front of the camera for that job.

Sheridan’s Travis Wheatley had more scenes in this season than the previous seasons and was portrayed as a John Dutton-like ranch owner.

In Season 5B, Beth Dutton travels to the Four Sixes ranch, where she meets Travis.

When we first see him, he is surrounded by three women who are playing a game of strip poker with him.

One of them happens to be his girlfriend, played by the supermodel Bella Hadid.

Kelly Reilly’s Beth casually accuses Travis of violating several workplace harassment laws and initially refuses to join his game.

In another scene, Beth has a conversation about Travis with Hadid’s character.

Fans can hardly imagine how Beth “gets it” when Travis’ girlfriend explains his s*x appeal in a scene.

We also get a couple of shots of Sheridan showing off his horse-riding skills.

In a follow-up scene, Travis is seen shirtless in a pool, partying with the girls.

Travis invites Beth to a one-on-one strip poker game and wins again but luckily for the viewers, Sheridan doesn’t go to the extreme of making Beth Dutton strip.

Sheridan’s Travis also pushes the tough guy demeanor to an extent that fans hate.

He treats Jimmy very badly, who takes it as tough love from a ranch owner to his ranch hand.

Travis also shows some tough love towards Jennifer Landon’s Teeter, who decides to leave the Montana ranch to go work for Travis.

These moments are sure to make fans miss Costner’s character.

Taylor Sheridan’s role sparked several discussions on Yellowstone groups and forums online, with many criticizing the creator’s take on the character.

In one of the latest discussions in the r/YellowstonePN subreddit, a user once again shared their experience cringing at Sheridan’s scenes in Yellowstone.

They commented, “This man is compensating for something.”

Another fan shared that it was another way for the creator to make money from Paramount.

In addition to his creator credits, Sheridan thought that his meaty role would bring more money for his acting credits.

As most of the scenes were shot on Sheridan’s Texas ranch, Paramount probably had to pay him for the ranch as well. Some of the fan reactions read:

Fans generally hated the direction that the show took after Costner’s departure.

Sheridan’s writing was a major issue for fans as they believed that the creator took things for granted on his long-running and breakout show.

Yellowstone is now available for streaming on Peacock.
