Samuel L. Jackson Knows His Best Chance at Oscar Won’t Happen Again After 1 Movie: ‘They generally reward Black people for playing horrendous sh*t’
Hollywood legend Samuel L. Jackson shares his thoughts on Oscar snubs, industry bias, and his illustrious five-decade career.
Samuel L. Jackson is undoubtedly one of the finest actors of his generation.
Part of several huge franchises like the MCU, Jurassic Park, Star Trek, and more, with a career spanning over five decades, he is truly the most versatile and iconic star who has left an indelible mark on the industry.
Yet, what is missing from his illustrious career is an Oscar.

Despite his vast filmography and immense talent, it is shocking that he has only received but one Academy Award nomination.
Reflecting on the harsh reality of the industry and his career, Jackson once noted that his best chance at an Oscar may have already passed him by after one film.

There is no denying that Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most prolific actors of his time.
One of the few actors who have managed not to get tied down by his roles in several popular franchises, Jackson has made a mark in pretty much every genre that exists in the world of entertainment.
Yet, he has never managed to win an Oscar, apart from the ‘Honorary’ one in 2022.
And he is still pretty salty about not getting his due despite giving his all in every role he has taken.
Back in 2022, in an interview with The Times, Jackson remarked how he should have won an Oscar when he was nominated for the first and only time in 1995 for Pulp Fiction.
In another interview with Vulture in 2023, he stated that he was again robbed of an Oscar nomination for his 1996 Legal drama A Time to Kill.
My first day working on that film, I did a speech in a room with an actor and the whole f**king set was in tears when I finished. I was like, ‘Okay. I’m on the right page.’ That sh*t is not in the movie! And I know why it’s not. Because it wasn’t my movie, and they weren’t trying to make me a star.
As someone who knows his worth as an actor, Jackson revealed to Los Angeles Times that he at the very least deserved an Oscar Nomination for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.

Everything I’ve done for Quentin has a moment that’s given me an opportunity, from ‘Jackie Brown’ to ‘The Hateful Eight’ to ‘Django [Unchained].’ .
‘Django’ was probably my best shot [at an Oscar] because it’s the most evil character I’ve ever played and they generally reward Black people for playing horrendous sh*t.
While the actor did end up winning an Honorary award, Jackson’s legacy is far from defined by a gold statue.
Instead, it’s his versatility, longevity, and the profound impact he’s had on the world of cinema that will be remembered, forever and ever.

After years and years of waiting, Samuel L. Jackson was finally awarded the Honorary Oscars at the 12th Governors Awards in 2022.
While he still yearns for a ‘real’ Oscar for his incredible performances, the actor was incredibly thrilled and honored to achieve the honor.
Introduced by Denzel Washington, making notes of his five decades-long career, philanthropy, and more, Jackson delivered an emotional speech as he looked back on his magnificent career and thanked his team and wife.
When I got this call last year, it was unexpected, but I guarantee you, this thing is going to be cherished… I got out there to entertain audiences the way Hollywood entertained me.
Make them forget their lives for a few hours and be thrilled, awed, or excited at the big room where make-believe lives…It’s truly been an honor and a pleasure to entertain you.
Stated the Marvel star as he went on to give a shout-out to each and every person who ever bought a ticket to any of his films (via YouTube).
A powerful and emotional moment that showcased how far he had come as a Black actor in an industry dominated by ‘whites’, his career rather transcends the many awards he had received.
One of Hollywood’s finest, whether or not Samuel L. Jackson won a ‘real’ Oscar or not, he already is a legendary figure in the history of film industry.
