Samuel L. Jackson is Still Angry How 1 Sandra Bullock Movie Robbed His Oscar: ‘The whole f—king set was in tears’
Samuel L. Jackson confessed that he should have gotten an Oscar nomination for his work in A Time to Kill.
When it comes to accolades and acting, few actors can compete with the likes of Samuel L. Jackson.
He has made a name for himself as one of the most iconic figures in the industry, having a distinctive presence on screen, as well as in real life.
Despite this, the actor has yet to receive an Academy Award for one of his performances. For years, he has been a part of several Oscar-winning and nominated films.

Even though he was a fundamental part of most of these projects, the only nomination he has received is for his role in Pulp Fiction.
What makes the matter all the more odd is that despite only one Oscar nomination to show for his career, the actor received an Honorary Academy Award.
It is safe to say that fact has made many of his fans quite upset.
It would seem, however, that they weren’t the only ones frustrated with the unjust treatment that the actor has experienced over the years.
During an interview, Jackson outright stated that he should have received an Oscar nomination for his work in A Time to Kill and even went as far as to reveal why he didn’t.
Samuel L. Jackson—A Casualty of the Editors’ Room
The editing room in any project holds a lot of power when it comes to how a project is going to look in the end.
They can make something simple into a masterpiece, and they can take something perfect and completely ruin it.
While several examples fit the former category, there have been far too many instances where they end up ruining projects.

One power that they have that many might not know about is altering performances.
Tears are added, and dramatic moments can be completely changed into a simple interaction through the skills that they possess.
Unfortunately for Samuel L. Jackson, he lost quite a lot of his hard work on the floors of the editing room when he was making 1996’s A Time to Kill.
During an interview with The Vulture, he confessed feeling like he was snubbed at the Oscars when it comes to this film.
Claiming his performance in the film was completely different from when it was being filmed, he accused the editors of the project of cutting out most of his impactful scenes.
The things they took out kept me from getting an Oscar. Really, motherf*ckers? You just took that shit from me?

With most of his most impressive moments in the project being lost to bureaucracy, Jackson did not get nominated for an Oscar.
A Waste of a Talented Actor
Samuel L. Jackson further talked about his performance in A Time to Kill, looking back to one specific moment on his very first day on set.
He confessed that during a scene, he was giving a speech with one of his co-stars, and the scene was so impactful that it ended up making everyone in the room cry.
Despite the impact that the scene had on everyone around him, the scene was not put in the film.
My first day working on that film, I did a speech in a room with an actor and the whole f*cking set was in tears when I finished.

One would assume that when a project hires someone as talented as Jackson, they would use him to his full capabilities and incorporate every aspect of his excellent acting.
However, this did not happen, and the actor seems to have a theory as to why it was the case.
Jackson stated that after the scene, he was sure that the production and he were on the same page.
However, it wasn’t until the final product of the film was complete that the actor realized that this was not the case.
I was like, ‘Okay. I’m on the right page.’ That shit is not in the movie! And I know why it’s not. Because it wasn’t my movie, and they weren’t trying to make me a star.

The leads of the film were Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey, and not Jackson himself. With this, the actor hypothesized that they wanted to divert the attention toward the other stars and did not want the Pulp Fiction star to steal the show.
Watch A Time to Kill on Prime Video.
