Paul McCartney isn’t just writing “silly love songs” – he’s also got a new book on the way!

PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at the music legend’s forthcoming oral history, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run.

Edited by Ted Widmer, the book documents McCartney’s time in his famed post-Beatles band, and the cover features plenty of Easter eggs for sharp-eyed fans.

The group, which McCartney, 82, and his wife Linda formed in 1971, saw a meteoric rise throughout the decade before they disbanded in 1981.

Wings sold over 22 million albums worldwide, went on successful tours and earned many #1 hits, including “Band on the Run,” “My Love” and the Oscar-nominated James Bond theme “Live and Let Die.”.

Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run draws from over 40 hours of new and archival interviews with McCartney, Linda and other band members, including Denny Seiwell, Henry McCullough, Jimmy McColluch, Joe English, Steve Holley, Geoff Britton and Laurence Juber.

Complementing those interviews are over 150 photographs, many unseen, from the likes of Linda, Henry Diltz and McCartney himself, as well as rare material like McCartney’s handwritten lyrics and diary entries.

“I’m so very happy to be transported back to the time that was Wings and relive some of our madcap adventures through this book,” McCartney, wrote the foreword for the book, said in a statement.

“Starting from scratch after The Beatles felt crazy at times.

There were some very difficult moments, and I often questioned my decision.

But as we got better, I thought, ‘OK this is really good.’”

“We proved Wings could be a really good band,” he added.

“To play to huge audiences in the same way the Beatles had and have an impact in a different way.

It was a huge buzz.”.

Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run will be published on Nov. 4 from Liveright Publishing and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
