NXT Invasion Can be a Headache For Triple H and WWE Because of Its Name
The WWE’s decision to name their upcoming NXT event ‘Invasion’ can offend a large chunk of the fanbase. Here’s how it unwantedly gets linked to a horrific event.
This article contains mentions of the Hamas attacks on Israel.
Please proceed with caution.
The WWE brass may have made massive arrangements for NXT Invasion scheduled for October 7, but their decision to name the event Invasion can subject them to the wrath of fans.
The scheduled date for NXT Invasion (October 7) coincidentally matches the date of the Palestinian terrorist organization, Hamas’s inhumane invasive attack on the southern cities of Israel in 2023, killing more than 1200 innocent civilians and escaping to Gaza with 251 more as hostages.
Triple H and Co.
certainly didn’t want to link their event to Hamas’s condemnable act.
Still, the title, ‘Invasion’ might upset several fans due to its coincidental similarities with the date and type of Hamas’s attack on Israel.
Why Did the WWE Name the Event Invasion?

Triple H and Co.
may have given fans a reason to get upset with the NXT Invasion, but NXT General Manager Ava’s comments about the storyline leading to this event detailed that the WWE never wanted to offend its viewers.
Ava explained that the event was named Invasion as TNA wrestlers invaded the NXT ring amid the dual title match between the reigning NXT Champion, Oba Femi, and the reigning TNA Champion, Trick Williams, during the September 23 episode of NXT.
Check out the entire segment below:
Ava also detailed that the event will consist of two “Survivor Series”-style matches (one men’s and one women’s match) between team NXT and team TNA, along with a tag team clash featuring NXT titleholders DarkState (Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin) and TNA champions The Hardy Boyz (Jeff and Matt Hardy).
All this was revealed in a WWE X.com post, which has since been deleted.
Ava’s comments revealed the apparent reason behind naming the NXT vs.
TNA event Invasion, but the WWE’s history indicates that Triple H and Co.
may have had a hidden intention behind choosing this name.
The WWE was probably trying to nostalgia-bait fans into watching the event, as their previous pay-per-view, named ‘Invasion,’ which culminated from a similar storyline, became a massive success in 2001.
Following Vince McMahon’s purchase of WCW’s assets in March 2001, the WWE brass created the storyline faction ‘The Alliance’, which consisted of former WCW and ECW wrestlers.
The Alliance’s subsequent feud with WWE (then WWF) wrestlers culminated in an official showdown between the two teams at ‘Invasion’ on July 22, 2001.
Triple H and Co.’s efforts to revamp the previous ‘Invasion’ memories can become a headache primarily because of the date they chose for the event.
However, this isn’t the first time the WWE has had trouble with names.
WWE’s Trouble With Its Former Name
Vince McMahon addressing WWE fans.
After originating as Capitol World Corporation (CWC) in 1953, the WWE underwent several name changes before finally adopting the current name in 2002.
However, its former name, WWF, caused it much more trouble than any other previous title.
The WWE changed its name from WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation) to WWF (World Wrestling Federation) in 1979, but the promotion’s extensive use of its initials for marketing collided with the interests of the World Wildlife Fund, which also operated with the same initials.
The two parties also signed an agreement to limit the usage of the title WWF primarily for their overseas operations, but the World Wildlife Fund raised a dispute about Vince and Co.’s extensive usage of the WWF logo and filed a lawsuit against the promotion in 2002.
The WWE lost the case and was forced to change its name again, to WWE, as we know it today.
Keeping this one aside, what are your views about the WWE deciding to host an event named ‘Invasion’ on the same date when Hamas conducted their inhumane, invasive attack on Israel two years ago? Let us know in the comments below.
