Netflix is adding 94% rated Leonardo DiCaprio movie labeled ‘the GOAT of cinema’
‘Absolutely shocking’
A Leonardo DiCaprio movie hailed as ‘damn near perfect’ is set to join Netflix this August.
The streaming service re-hauls its digital catalogue every few weeks.
While we must say goodbye to some favorites, it makes space for some new players to join the game.
It helps keep the library fresh, after all – and perhaps gives you an excuse to stop re-watching The Office… if only for a day or two.
And if you’re a Martin Scorsese fan, then you’ll be delighted by this new addition.
Not only for its knock-out Hollywood cast, but for its staggering twists and turns, too.
The movie was a hit with critics and fans alike (Warner Bros.).
The movie transports us to Boston in the early 2000s, where the Massachusetts State Police are waging a gruelling war against organized crime.
At the center of it is Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson), a ruthless Irish-American mob boss grooming a young protégé, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), to infiltrate the police force.
Meanwhile, Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio), a troubled but brilliant academy graduate, is selected to go undercover in Costello’s crew thanks to his family’s criminal background.
It soon turns into a race against time as to who will be outed first.
The movie in question is none other than The Departed, an English-language remake of the 2002 Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs.
The Departed has been scored a near-perfect 94 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating by more than 250,000 audience members.
Critics awarded it a similar score of 91 percent.
“Featuring outstanding work from an excellent cast, The Departed is a thoroughly engrossing gangster drama with the gritty authenticity and soupy morality we come to expect from Martin Scorsese,” their consensus read.
Fans were in agreement, as one simply put it:
“My favorite movie of all time! The GOAT of cinema in my opinion.”
“Damn near perfect movie,” a second agreed, as another social media user said:
“Absolutely shocking and the best acted movie I’ve ever seen.”
The movie scored Scorsese his first and only Oscar win – and while there was plenty of buzz for The Departed to be turned into a franchise, the director was dead against the idea, as he told GQ in 2023.
Without spoiling the entire movie, let’s just say some major changes would’ve been needed for it to work. It simply wouldn’t be the movie it is today.
Sometimes, less really is more.
The Departed is joining Netflix US on August 1.
