Leonardo DiCaprio is taking his portfolio to another level as he secures the deal for a luxury hotel to be built in Israel.
The reported $100M hotel will be built in the Herzliya Marina, and per The Jerusalem Post, it is mainly owned by the Hagag Group and brothers Ahikam and Lior Cohen.
As for DiCaprio, he owns a 10% stake in the project.
The Tel Aviv District Planning and Building Committee has finally approved the construction, while the partnership was first reported back in 2018.
If you are wondering why it took so long for the project to be approved, TJP states that the delay is due to the Hagag Group and their request to increase the hotel’s building rights.
This takes the hotel from the initial 10,000 square meters to a whopping 51,000 square meters.
Thanks to this, the hotel is expected to have a total of fourteen floors and 365 rooms.
To top it all off, an underground parking space worth 8,000 square meters has also been approved for construction.

Alright, it is no secret that Leonardo DiCaprio is an environmentalist with projects made for the benefit of the world, including the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, an NPO that is devoted to promoting environmental awareness.
He even urged Bill Clinton to take action on climate change.
Naturally, any project he takes on is expected to keep the betterment of Planet Earth in consideration, and the upcoming hotel is no exception to the rule.
The reported $100 million hotel is set to meet U.S.
Green Building Council standards as well as acquire LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
As per JFeed, it is said to be one of the most sustainable hospitality ventures of all time.
DiCaprio said back in 2018,
Green environmental development is a significant part of building communities that work in partnership with nature and not against it.
As we seek to create a future that heads off the most severe effects of climate change, we need projects that push for new developments in environmental design.
That being said, the hotel will not cut back on luxurious amenities, and will include a central pool, conference center, an upscale restaurant, retail spaces, and will even have direct yacht access.
It is designed by Ranni Ziss Architects.

As the actor sets out for the new venture, social media is not happy with the news. Sure, there are a handful who are looking forward to seeing where this goes, but the majority seems to be against DiCaprio’s decision when it comes to building a hotel in Israel.
From hoping the project crashes to calling DiCaprio tone-deaf given the situation of the world at the moment, netizens seem to be quite disappointed by the move.

hope it ends up like the titanic.

That’s not all. There are some who are even pledging to boycott his movies in the future if the plan follows through. He was also called out for creating a luxury yacht hotel despite claiming to be a climate activist.
Not spending a dime on any movie that he’s in if this continues!!!

You mean a Climate Hypocrite.

Well, it looks like the actor’s dream project is going to be under a ton of security for months to follow.
Whether the backlash will impact the hotel’s growth and business remains to be seen.
All eyes are on DiCaprio as he and others try to balance luxury, sustainability, and controversy in one of his most ambitious projects yet.
