Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal Go On a Honeymoon in Crazy Stupid Love Directors’ New Movie
Jake Gyllenhaal and Kevin Costner set to unite for the first-time on screen in upcoming Amazon MGM dramedy, Honeymoon with Harry.
Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal‘s new drama, Honeymoon with Harry, is a poignant story with a lot of heart, with some tearjerking moments interspersed in between. Set to be helmed by the Crazy, Stupid, Love directing duo, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, this film marks the first on-screen collaboration of Hollywood heavyweight veterans, Costner and Gyllenhaal.
Having passed through a lot of hands since its conception in 2004, the script of Honeymoon with Harry has finally found a home at Amazon MGM. After spending decades in development hell, the movie has gained considerable momentum, with Jennifer Salke (former head of Amazon MGM) attached as producer.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Kevin Costner Defy Stereotype in Upcoming Honeymoon Drama
Kevin Costner sheds his macho, gruff Western image, and Jake Gyllenhaal puts his anti-heroic bizarro roles on hold to team up in the new dramedy, Honeymoon with Harry. Hollywood takes the overdone Eat, Pray, Love trope of women going on their honeymoon solo, turns it on its head, and throws Gyllenhaal and Costner into the deep end of the narrative.
Much is not known about the film, though it will be refreshing to watch both Gyllenhaal and Costner break out of their usual sandbox to tell a story about love, loss, grief, and healing. Surely, the deceptively titled Honeymoon with Harry will leave the audience sniffling in theaters.
Before the two actors, the movie had a string of A-list who’s who attached to star and/or direct at some point or another over the past 21 years. From Paul Haggis (Crash) to Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) to Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook), Honeymoon with Harry passed by the desks of many veteran and acclaimed directors.
Meanwhile, the pairings of Vince Vaughn–Jack Nicholson and Bradley Cooper–Robert De Niro were also attached at different stages to star before falling to Costner-Gyllenhaal.
Honeymoon with Harry: Plot Details, Cast, and Release Date
In a synopsis published by The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s plot is revealed as below:
[Honeymoon with Harry] tells the story of a man (Gyllenhaal) as he decides to go on a honeymoon with his would-be father-in-law (Costner) after his fiancée dies two days before their wedding.
While not much else was divulged in terms of plot, one can already tell how the film will turn out based on its heart-rending premise and powerhouse casting. Dan Fogelman penned the script from an unpublished 2004 Bart Baker novel and is set to produce alongside Mike Karz and Jennifer Salke.
The cast and release date are yet to be officially announced by MGM.
