Jennifer Aniston has been flying high after the success of the Emmy, SAG, and Critics Choice Award-winning show The Morning Show. It is well-known that the show is based on Brian Stelter’s 2013 book called Top of the Morning. Now, she is in charge of adapting another book- the No. 1 New York Times bestselling memoir called I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy.
Aniston will star and executive produce the dramedy that will cover McCurdy’s life as a child star under her domineering mother, Debra. Reportedly, Debra did everything possible to keep her daughter as small as possible so that she could keep getting kid’s roles even as she grew older. So, what else is known about this hit book and what does it mean for the star’s presence on The Morning Show? Apple TV+ has released more information about the cast and crew of the upcoming show.

The adaptation of the 2022 popular memoir called, I’m Glad My Mom Died, by Jennette McCurdy will focus on the true story it is based on. It will follow the manipulative relationship between child star Jennette McCurdy and her narcissistic mother. The book stayed for over 80 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list.
McCurdy gained prominence in Hollywood after starring in the hit Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly and then she reprised her role in the spinoff series called Sam & Cat. Her book deals with heavy themes of addiction, eating disorders, and more. In an interview with Vogue, the Nickelodeon star revealed what her relationship with her mother was like:
“There are moments where I fantasize that my mom would’ve apologized or that we’d have a turnaround in our relationship, but that’s fantasy. That’s a lot of what the book is about to me, not needing to romanticize the dead and validate our own experience with them. I feel very confidently that if my mom were still alive, I’d still have eating disorders. I’d still be having a lot of mental health struggles.“
McCurdy’s mom, Debra, passed away from cancer in 2013, and this left the star feeling a cocktail of emotions. The title of the book is inspired by her mother’s death. The actress revealed that she has been thanked for coming up with this title. She said:
“A lot of people have been coming up to me saying, ‘Hey, my mom’s alive. I can’t say this. Thank you for saying this for those of us who can’t.“
It has now been confirmed who will play the role of McCurdy’s mom in the show adaptation of her hit book.

It has been confirmed that Jennifer Aniston will play the abusive mother in the adaptation of I’m Glad My Mom Died. Apple TV+ has also revealed that there will be ten episodes and the show will be produced and showrun by the author herself as well as Ari Katcher.
Aniston, Jerrod Carmichael, Erica Kay, LuckyChap, as well as Sharon Horgan and Merman, will executive produce. At the time of writing, it hasn’t been revealed which other actors will be a part of the show.
As for Aniston’s role on The Morning Show, there’s nothing to worry about. As per Deadline, her involvement in the upcoming adaptation won’t hinder her ability to star in The Morning Show, which she also stars in and executive produces.
The Morning Show is currently streaming on Apple TV+ and season 4 will premiere on Sept. 17, 2025.
