Jenna Ortega Begged Her Stylist for ‘Practical’ Looks After Wearing a ’20- to 30-Lb.’ Bejeweled Top to 2025 Emmys

Stylist Enrique Melendez explained that the look, which took inspiration from ‘Death Becomes Her,’ was “digging into her collarbone” all night

Jenna Ortega’s bejeweled 2025 Emmys look was the talk of the night, but her fashionable Givenchy red carpet moment came at a price.

The Wednesday actress’s stylist, Enrique Melendez, appeared on episode five of Jess Lucero’s Plus One show and shared the details behind Ortega’s stunning Death Becomes Her-inspired look at the awards show, which took place on Sept. 14.

Ortega, 22, hit the red carpet in a look plucked straight from Givenchy’s runway show, which featured several oversized jewels that draped against her chest and upper body.

She paired the look with a simple, low-rise skirt in black that was custom-designed by Givenchy.

The most difficult part of the look, Melendez revealed, wasn’t keeping Ortega’s chest in place — it was the weight of the garment.

“She actually was like, ‘Enrique, I’m not actually concerned about a slip, but I want to be respectful to the Academy, obviously.’.

I’m worried about a slip; we used proper tape and everything. It was morseo our first time doing something this revealing at all,” he told Lucero.

The stylist, who has worked with Ortega since she was 14, had his eye on the piece after seeing it on the runway, and hoped to get it onto her after her team confirmed her Emmys attendance.

“You can’t really modify something like that [because] it’s a totally couture piece.

It was meant to be.

With this Givenchy look, she’s like, ‘Enrique, I love you, but can we please do something more practical next time?’ ” he recalled.

“That thing was digging into her poor collarbone.”.

The stylist explained that the Givenchy piece weighed “a good 20, 30 pounds at least.”.

“Imagine that on your bone,” Melendez continued, noting that Ortega, despite the pain, is “married to the moment.”

Though Ortega is often willing to bring Melendez’s high-fashion vision to life on the red carpet, he previously revealed that her day-to-day style is far simpler than the over-the-top goth-inspired looks that fans are used to seeing her in.

“Jenna’s personal style is super simple, super streamlined. She would wear the same thing if she could every single day,” he said in an Aug. 7 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I tell her thank you, because a lot of times, it’s just for me.”.
