“He’s too f—king busy to be lonely”: Taylor Sheridan’s ‘1993’ Yellowstone Spinoff Will Be a Love Letter to Kevin Costner Only if It Ever Happens

Taylor Sheridan’s rumored 1993 Yellowstone spinoff honoring Kevin Costner remains uncertain, stuck between plans, busy schedules, and delays.

I’m not slowing down, but that rumored 1993 spinoff? Yeah, even I’ve got to admit, it’s a bit of a mystery. Supposedly a full-on tribute to Kevin Costner, it’s the kind of thing fans would eat up… if it ever sees the light of day. With my plate already overflowing and a few behind-the-scenes hiccups, this love letter to the Yellowstone legend feels like it’s stuck in development limbo.

Will it gallop onto our screens, or stay a dusty pitch in the writer’s room? Well, ideas are there, the outline’s been kicked around, but as far as real movement is concerned, it’s stalled.

Taylor Sheridan’s 1993 spinoff sounds epic, but he’s too busy running Yellowstone to make it real

1993 sounds like the kind of Yellowstone spinoff I’d throw my wallet at. But right now, it’s just smoke. And Taylor Sheridan is way too “f—king busy to be lonely” or, apparently, to make it happen.

That quote is straight from Josh Lucas. The man who plays young John Dutton in all those gritty ’90s flashbacks on Yellowstone. Lucas wanted to be one of Dutton’s sons. Instead, he got to be the Dutton and somehow still had to wait five seasons to matter. During an interview with GQ, Lucas alluded:

He said one thing. I was like, “Is he lonely?” He said, “He’s too f*cking busy to be lonely!” And the way he said it made me think, “Is he talking about John Dutton or Taylor Sheridan?” [Laughs.] Again, I don’t need to build up the mythology of Taylor, but how the fuck is that guy doing what he’s doing? He is a one-man band. He controls…and I mean control in a good way.

The thing is, Lucas vanished after Season 2. Poof. Nada in 3 and 4 right when Yellowstone was blowing up and spawning spin-offs like 1883 and 1923. And I get why Lucas had doubts. He shared during the same interview,

I never did. To me, I’ve never gotten any Hollywood sense of Taylor, but that would just be Hollywood talk, and he’s not that guy. But I still didn’t—not that I never thought about it again. I always was like, “I wish I was doing more on that show,” because I genuinely loved making it in the beginning and I had known how successful it was. It took seeing it for me to get even more like, “Wow, that is something that I would really love to be a part of.”

Who wouldn’t? It’s Kevin Costner with Cattle Wars. Now, Lucas is finally part of the real drama. The flashbacks are syncing with John Dutton’s present-day chaos. And Lucas? Jet-lagged but game flying between Montana and L.A. while juggling Yellowstone and Apple’s new comedy Mrs. American Pie (with Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, and Allison Janney).

So yeah, I’d love that 1993 spinoff. A prequel packed with Sheridan’s grit and Lucas’ swagger. But it’s only happening if TS ever stops long enough to breathe.

Taylor Sheridan and Accountant 2 director gear up for a CIA-DEA showdown

Taylor Sheridan’s stepping out of the West and straight into a high-stakes DEA-CIA thriller. He’s teaming up with The Accountant 2 director Gavin O’Connor for F.A.S.T., a gritty action flick first announced back in 2018 and now finally moving forward (per MovieWeb).

The story follows an Ex-Delta Force operator, Kyle returns home broke, kills two skinheads stealing his stuff, and lands in a vigilante DEA squad built on a real CIA program. Sheridan wrote the original script before Yellowstone even launched. Now, with hits like LionessTulsa King, and 1923 under his belt, he’s back with more firepower and rewrites.

Chris Pratt was once attached. Now, insiders say Brandon Sklenar’s in. With The Accountant 2 dropping April 25, buzz is real. And F.A.S.T. might just become Sheridan’s biggest non-Western thrill ride yet.
