F1 Box-Office: Brad Pitt Inches Away From Taking Down Tom Cruise as Movie Hits Digital
Brad Pitt’s F1 might just steer past Tom Cruise’s movie, winning the 2025 box office battle between the stars.
Brad Pitt’s F1 is inching closer to the box office collection of Tom Cruise‘s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
According to a report from Box Office Mojo, the Pitt-led motorsports movie has grossed $595.4 million so far against the $597.6 million of Cruise’s final outing as Agent Ethan Hunt.
As F1 becomes available on digital platforms on August 22, 2025, its box office run might be coming to an end.
However, the movie may take down Cruise’s 2025 release, crowning Pitt the winner in the box office battle.
Here is what the success of Brad Pitt’s F1 means for the star and Hollywood.
Brad Pitt’s F1 Success Proves Tom Cruise Isn’t The Last Superstar

Tom Cruise is widely regarded as the last superstar, and the actor’s Mission: Impossible franchise has been a major crowd-pleaser during his career.
Moreover, The Final Reckoning was poised for box office success, considering the hype around it being Cruise’s final goodbye to the franchise.
Despite this, the movie failed to clear the $600 million mark at the global box office.
At the same time, Brad Pitt’s F1 nearly matched its collection even after being a risky project given its niche sporting premise and lack of franchise connections.
Hence, F1‘s success proves Pitt is still Cruise’s biggest competition, and the latter isn’t the only superstar on the Hollywood paddock.
F1 Box-Office Hints at a Shifting Trend in Hollywood
Aside from reinvigorating Brad Pitt’s commercial appeal as a leading man, F1‘s success also hints at original movies being back in trend. F1 released in theaters on June 27, 2025, during a busy Summer calendar, featuring some of the most anticipated franchise fests.

In the weeks since its release, F1 faced tough competition at the box office from Superman, The Fantastic Four, and Jurassic World Rebirth. Despite competition, F1‘s box office numbers are nearly on par with Superman and surpassed The Fantastic Four.
Aside from F1, other original movies such as Sinners and Weapons also proved to be commercial successes at the box office. As a result, it is safe to say that their success suggests original blockbusters are back, and that is a welcome change in Hollywood trends.
