Ree Drummond, known affectionately as The Pioneer Woman, is embracing her newest role as a grandmother with open arms and a heart full of love. Her daughter, Alex Drummond Scott, welcomed her first child, a beautiful baby girl named Sophia, on December 19th. Ree has been sharing highlights of this joyful new chapter on her blog, giving fans a glimpse into the tender moments and family celebrations.
The excitement is palpable as Ree recounts her first days with baby Sophia. She wrote about staying in Dallas just long enough to fall hopelessly in love with her granddaughter. The bond is immediate and profound, sparking a whimsical idea in Ree’s mind — the possibility of moving closer to Alex and her husband Mauricio in Texas.

Ree confessed, “I would be lying if I said I haven’t checked Zillow for houses,” not just near Alex and Mauricio’s street, but even on their block and right across the street from their home. Currently, Ree and her husband Ladd live in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, about five hours away from Dallas. While the idea of a second home might be unlikely, Ree admitted, “A girl and a grandmother can sure dream.”
In her blog, Ree detailed some of her favorite moments with Sophia, from hospital visits to introducing her to other family members. One particularly joyful occasion was watching her younger daughter Paige and Paige’s fiancé David meet their niece for the first time. David, like many young men in their twenties, hasn’t had much experience with babies, so it was heartwarming to see him jump right in and enjoy his new role as uncle.

Paige and David are set to tie the knot in May, adding yet another reason for celebration in the family’s calendar. Despite years away from baby care, Ree described holding Sophia as muscle memory. “Once you’ve held and raised babies, you never forget a thing,” she explained. Having spent recent years raising teenagers and young adults, Ree reflected on how natural it felt to cradle a newborn again. “These hands and arms didn’t miss a lick.”
Ree also praised Alex and Mauricio’s teamwork during labor and delivery. She noted how supportive Mauricio was throughout the experience, joking that his presence might have made her own role in the room unnecessary. “It was so wonderful to see how much they love and support each other,” Ree wrote.
As Ree adjusts to life as a grandmother, her heartfelt posts offer a glimpse into the deep bond she shares with her family. Whether or not she ends up moving closer to Sophia, one thing is clear — this new chapter is filling Ree’s heart with immense joy and gratitude.
Fans of The Pioneer Woman can look forward to more updates as Ree balances her life in Pawhuska with her cherished moments as a grandmother. This beautiful transition adds a new layer to the beloved personality’s life story, inspiring many with the warmth and love she shares.
