MSNBC is undergoing significant changes amid a sharp decline in viewership, particularly affecting its flagship program, The Rachel Maddow Show.

The network’s total audience has nearly halved since Election Day, with Maddow’s show experiencing a 41% drop in total viewers and a 50% decrease in the key 25–54 demographic .​

In response to these challenges, MSNBC has implemented a major programming overhaul.

Rachel Maddow’s show has been reduced to airing once a week on Mondays, while former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is set to take over the 9 p.m.

Eastern time slot from Tuesday through Friday, starting May 6.

Psaki’s new program, “The Briefing,” will replace both her previous Sunday show and Alex Wagner’s weekday role .​

These changes are part of a broader corporate restructuring as Comcast prepares to spin off MSNBC and several other cable channels into a new entity called SpinCo, while retaining NBC, Peacock, and Bravo .

The reorganization has led to about 100 layoffs, including on-air talent, and internal disputes, such as Rachel Maddow publicly criticizing management decisions.​

Despite the ratings decline, Rachel Maddow remains with MSNBC, having signed a new five-year contract reportedly worth $25 million annually, a $5 million pay cut from her previous deal .

Her continued presence signals MSNBC’s commitment to its liberal core audience while navigating the evolving media landscape.
