David Banda, the boy Madonna adopted from Malawi 16 years ago, has grown into a remarkable young man whose journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Born on September 24, 2005, in a rural Malawian village called Lipunga, David came into the world under tragic circumstances.

His mother passed away shortly after giving birth, and his father, Yohane Banda, a struggling farmer earning just €50 a year, made the heart-wrenching decision to place him in the Home of Hope orphanage, hoping it would give him a better chance at life.

In 2006, at the height of her global fame, Madonna visited Malawi as part of her humanitarian work through her charity, Raising Malawi.

It was during this visit that she met David, who at the time was a frail infant battling pneumonia.
