Packers vs. Cowboys: Overtime tie feels like a loss

The Green Bay Packers survived an overtime scare against the Dallas Cowboys, leaving North Texas with a 40-40 tie.

Despite only allowing 44 points throughout the first three weeks of the season, the Packers were unable to stop a nosebleed against the Cowboys, who were down star receiver CeeDee Lamb and two starting offensive linemen on Sunday Night Football.

This game was only the second overtime match of the 2025 NFL season, with the first being a Cowboys win over the New York Giants.

Green Bay almost fumbled this one away, as quarterback Jordan Love took a late snap without timeouts as overtime was expiring.

A batted pass in the end zone gave the Packers a field goal attempt with just one second left on the clock, which Brandon McManus nailed.

Green Bay had a blocked point after touchdown earlier in the game, due to tight end Luke Musgrave opening up too wide on the protection unit.

From that point on, the Packers sat Musgrave and played offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins and defensive tackle Karl Brooks on field goal protection for the first time in 2025.

It seems like head coach Matt LaFleur got the message: Special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia needs the starters on the field goal team moving forward.

Defensively, the cornerbacks opposite of Keisean Nixon, Nate Hobbs and Carrington Valentine, allowed three receiving touchdowns.

Nixon might have allowed the biggest play of the game, though, a 34-yard sideline throw from Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott to receiver Jalen Tolbert.

According to Next Gen Stats, it was the second-most improbable completion in their time tracking the league.

Based on Nixon’s body language, it appears that he believed that Prescott’s pass was just going to be a throwaway.

On the bright side, receiver Romeo Doubs had three receiving touchdowns today.

The only major injury the Packers had was to defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, who also dropped out last week with a knee issue.

It’s hard to celebrate a tie, especially one that feels like a loss. It’s time for Green Bay to go into the bye and get healthy.
