Elon Musk called for a boycott of The View, calling it “a meeting place for ignorant women.” Immediately after, the entire cast responded fiercely
Elon Musk, known for his unfiltered commentary on social media, has stirred another media storm by publicly calling for a boycott of the long-running talk show The View.
In a post shared on his platform X, Musk wrote: “Boycott The View. It’s a meeting place for ignorant women spreading nonsense to millions.”
The statement immediately went viral, drawing both outrage and support. Within hours, The View’s co-hosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro — addressed Musk’s remarks live on air with an unusually united front.
Whoopi Goldberg opened the show saying, “When you can’t handle women speaking their minds, it says a lot more about you than it does about us.” Joy Behar was even more direct, calling Musk’s comment “sexist garbage from a billionaire who can’t stand being challenged.”
Ana Navarro, never one to hold back, added: “For someone who claims to support free speech, it’s interesting how fast he wants to silence women who disagree with him.”
Sunny Hostin pointed out the broader implications, stating, “This isn’t just about The View. This is about a pattern of powerful men trying to delegitimize women’s voices in media. And it’s tired.”
The backlash extended far beyond the show’s studio. Celebrities, politicians, and everyday users on social media quickly rallied in defense of the hosts. Actress Gabrielle Union tweeted, “If being smart, bold, and opinionated makes us ignorant, then let’s all be proudly ignorant.”
On the other side, some of Musk’s supporters argued that he was merely criticizing what he sees as partisan and divisive commentary on daytime television. One user on X commented, “He’s right. The show pushes a one-sided view and pretends it’s balanced.”
Still, the tone of Musk’s language has sparked widespread debate over misogyny and respect for women in media. Feminist author Roxane Gay weighed in, saying, “When men can’t win the argument, they attack the woman. This is the same old story.”
This isn’t Musk’s first feud with the entertainment world. He previously clashed with Bill Gates, Joe Biden, and even Taylor Swift fans. But his comments about The View mark one of the most direct and personal attacks he has made on a group of high-profile women.
Media watchdogs have begun weighing in, with some calling for advertisers on X to reconsider their partnerships in light of Musk’s increasingly combative tone. Meanwhile, Musk has doubled down, replying to critics with another tweet: “Truth hurts. Stay mad.”
Despite the firestorm, The View’s ratings actually ticked up in the days following the controversy. Many viewers tuned in specifically to hear how the hosts would respond, proving that even in the face of criticism, the women of The View remain a powerful presence in daytime television.
As for Elon Musk, his message has once again divided the public — praised by some, condemned by others — but undeniably keeping him at the center of conversation.
